I find myself being more excited to sample different Oktoberfest/Festbiers this year than in past years. NJ has a few good Oktoberfests I've had in the past (first list), but I'm looking to have some others. Suggestions from NJ/PA/NY are, of course, welcome.

Good NJ Oktoberfests I've had in the past:
Ramstein - Same story as usual with these guys...great beers, but just not very easy to find in bottles. Hoping that will change this year

Jersey Girl - I was pleasantly surprised with their Oktoberfest last year

Flying Fish - Maybe the most widely available and longest running Oktoberfest from a NJ brewery. I've enjoyed in past years and they've put a new label on it, which speaks more to the season, I think.

Lone Eagle - Two years in a row and I've enjoyed their Märzen German Style Lager / My Favorite Märzen. Last year's was good, but I thought the 2017 version a little better.

    From PA:
Say what you will about Yuengling, but their Oktoberfest has always been pretty solid. Haven't had it in a couple of years thought
Although I haven't had Victory's Festbier in a couple of years, I remember really enjoying it
Sly Fox makes a a good one, though untappd slots it as a Festbier

    Add to the list!

I think that Yuengling Oktoberfest is a very tasty beer but not necessarily consistent to a style guideline Oktoberfest definition. I enjoy drinking it.
I have had the Victory beer in the recent past but that beer is too roasty for my tastes.
Sly Fox is an excellent Oktoberfest beer IMO.

The other PA brewed Oktoberfest I would recommend to you is Stoudts Oktoberfest.

    Cheers!

P.S. It has been a loooong time since I have seen Ramstein Oktoberfest and I really enjoyed those beers. I have little hope I will ever see this beer again.

You might know this already but Ramstein Oktoberfest doesn't get bottled, it's draught only. Definitely a good one though if you can track it down.

I agree that Sly Fox's is really good. If by Festbier uptappd means a pale Oktoberfest it's inaccurate. But I've never found untapped to be the most reliable (for beer info or reviews).
Agree 100% with this. It's so surprising to me too since Victory typically knocks lagers out of the park. I think the Festbier was one of the first beers they ever brewed too.

Well, if a beer drinker appreciates an Amber Oktoberfest with some roasty flavors this beer could be a home run for them. Needless to say that person is not me.

    Cheers!

I posted this in the Cape May thread already but I love their take. Going by what I remember from last year. It is a much lighter take on an Oktoberfest but I really enjoy it. It is unique and may not be what most look for in a marzen but give it a try. I remember thinking it was very floral but to it worked.

Keeping my fingers crossed that tonewood makes one this year. We’ll see.

I snagged a sixer of Cape May's yesterday and immediately had two in quick succession. Really good stuff, but that's no surprise by now when it comes to CMBC.

Try Funk Brewing Funktoberfest, I was surprised how solid it was because they mostly brew IPAs.

I haven't had it this year but last year 2SP Delcofest was good.

I have also come full circle on Victory Octoberfest, years ago I didn't like actually thought it was the worst beer they brewed.. But nowadays I love it. And is certainly not the worst thing they brew.

I was looking for Funktoberfest, actually. Funk isn't quite in my area yet, that I've seen.

If you have access to Mikeller beers (not sure what gets distributed from their NY brewery), seek out their recent Festbier. I grabbed a 4 at the brewery last week and was very impressed.

Brooklyn Oktoberfest is always a reliable option as well.

Just had the 2019 SN Oktoberfest and definitely recommend. It’s not an exceptional example of the style by any means but it is well balanced and hits the mark on every facet of the style. Plus the price is always wallet-friendly. I’m bringing some over to my girlfriends parents tonight for a party and I suspect they’ll all be gone pretty quickly.

So it's not a good example of the style yet it's a benchmark of the style?

Ah I see you want to be one to split hairs. Probably don’t have much else going for you eh?

What I said is (please read more carefully next time), it is not an “exceptional” example but it does hit every mark for an oktoberfest. A lot of oktoberfest produced in the US fall way short either being too watery or too sweet. If you expect this beer to blow you away you will be disappointed. However, if you want a beer that tastes like an oktoberfest should, this will tick that box.

Does that work better for you?

Wasn't splitting hairs, was just confused by your statement. Thanks for clarifying. I was really looking forward to that beer this year but was let down, so I'm interested in hearing why other people liked it. For me it was one of the blandest and watered down Oktoberfests I've had in some time. I do agree with you though that it finishes dry which is great, unlike most US versions which can be very sweet like you said. Cheers.

If they do, I need to know how they’re gonna shoehorn a Phish reference in the name.

(Don’t ask me! I only know the whole Gamehenge/Wilson (was it Junta?) thing because my sister was a Phish-head in the early 90s and made me listen to their shit as a kid growing up. I never really got into ‘em, maybe I’ll have to give it another go sometime)

Always makes me laugh/cringe when I can get tons of Finback and Grimm at a beer shop in a quiet town ~300 miles North in MA but can’t get anything from them ~100 miles South in the bustling wasteland known as South Jersey
