Let's just say Taco Bell is more authentically Mexican than the lamb gyros sold in the US is Greek. The gyros you find in Greece are primarily pork.

I don't leave the city much, but will make a trip this week to The Works before hitting Une Ammee. Gyros looked via good via pictures, looking forward to it. Is it Kronos or homemade?

    Mmmm Lamb!!!

I guess, what does "authentic" mean? The lamb-based gyros in the US originated in Greece and were largely popularized by Greek immigrants. You could say that qualifies as "authentic." At the very least, it's more authentically Greek than spiced raccoon meat encased in an oversized nacho cheese Dorito with lettuce and cheddar cheese as toppings is authentically Mexican.

italian beef could be the most overrated bastion of the local culinary scene.

    followed closely by Pequod's...

I also personally think Pequod's is a little overrated, but I still really like it. The issue (to me) with Italian beef is that 99% of the places that offer it have a very mediocre version of it.

And man, people coming to this thread expecting discussion of P3 beers are going to be surprised!

Pequod's is very good pizza and you should all be better for having eaten it.

The key to the Italian Beef sandwich is getting the beef juice on the side so you can control the saturation of the dip each bite by pouring on the perfect amount. Never understood the dipping of the sandwich that turns the whole thing into a soggy inedible mess.

We haven’t even discussed the awesomeness that is Aurelio’s pizza sauce yet

Ok, but.... which Aurelio's though? Homewood is obviously the king (the meatball and pepperoni thin slice in the old oven is just magic).

Off topic but I just noticed that when you are online it looks like Han Solo is serving me a lime snow cone that flashes.

It re-opened. Obviously Burt no longer runs it but the pizza is still very good.

That was a big part of the appeal to me, though. But maybe I'll still give it a shot.

Correct on Pequod’s being overrated. Too much dough too little artery clogging. Cue my exit for this molten lava of a take.

I was always partial to the old Villa Park one before they tore it down, and went take out only across the street. But I enjoy the Homewood or Palos one when I visit the in-laws vs the Addison one, which is closest to me

It did re-open on the next street over. Burt’s daughter runs it. Pizza is good but it’s not on the level as her fathers. Plus the place is smaller than Pequods and that place is tiny as is. Rather walk a street over.
