The "9000 Breweries" thread got me to thinking about how most small towns could probably support a small (say a 2-5bbl) brewery. Where are some small, remote towns that already have breweries? Here's one that's fairly well isolated: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/40215/

I'm guessing there's a ton in the rural part of the country, but for my general area I'll say Hill Farmstead. Greensboro Bend has a population of about 300. Getting there involves a series of dirt roads (good luck during mud season or winter) and no cell service for miles.

It's funny how popular it is despite its location. You wouldn't expect a World Class brewery to be in the middle of farm/mountain land.

There are a few in tiny western Colorado towns that don't even have fast food or traffic lights. Cedaredge and Paonia come to mind.

Yeah, but it's a pretty populated area, only about 100 miles from Montreal (the same distance my town is from Seattle) and 200 from Boston.

That's still pretty remote. But like I said there's gonna be places in the Midwest that are probably 200 miles from the nearest highway, let alone the nearest city.

Lol! No. But Glenrock, with a population of around 2500, has a very promising brewery, Cowboy State Brewing. And they have a canning line.

That's what I'm searching for; very small, remote towns that can support a small, local brewery. The fact that HF is such a hype-monster, with folks making pilgrimages to it, is kinda the antithesis of what I'm looking for. The example I gave, Steens Mountain, in Burns OR, is about 130 from Bend OR, and about 190 from Boise ID, with not a lot else anywhere near it. Parts of WY, MT, ID, NV, UT, CO, TX, NM, and even heavily populated states like CA, AZ, and WA have some very remote towns.

I had to look that one up. I've never heard of Brickside, MI. let alone Alpha Brewing. (Although looking at the map, I think I've passed thru there at some point when I worked that territory before retiring.)

Ironically, I'm nominating Brickside Brewing Company in Copper Harbor (pop. 108). I know that you know it's at the top end of the Leelanau Peninsula and is north of everything in Michigan. One road leads in, dead-ends, and then leads the way out. I'm guessing that it's at least an 11-hour drive for me to get there, and I'm an hour north of the Indiana line.

EDIT: P.S. I misread your post as saying that Alpha was in Brickside, MI.

I was never good at geography -- it should be Keewenaw Peninsula.

The Sylva, North Carolina area is remote and supports an active local brewing scene. I don't know about their current status, but the older Nantahala Brewing and Heinzelmannchen Brewing go way back. Now Innovation, Balsam Falls, and Lazy Hiker are on line. It is a big river sports area with seemingly half of Florida spread out all across the N.C. mountains in the Summer.

Most remote I’ve been to would probably be Old Bisbee Brewing in Bisbee, AZ. Population 5221 according to Wikipedia. Closest city over 100k (as far as I can tell) is Tucson 92 miles to the Northeast, unless you count Nogales, Mexico, which is slightly closer. Sierra Vista is only 24 miles away, though, and it has a decent population of 43,208.

Tombstone Brewing could also be considered. Similar situation as Bisbee, but Tombstone has a smaller population of 1,300 and is 20 miles closer to Tucson. Still pretty remote, as I’m sure @honkey can attest.

Flagstaff could also be worth a mention. It’s a decent sized city with 71,459 people, but it has 7 or 8 breweries. Other cities have more per capita, but that’s pretty impressive considering the nearest major city is Phoenix, 145 miles south.

Alpha is an old iron mining town between Iron Mountain MI.

Yes, Brickside is in Copper Harbor MI. Near the north terminous of US-41. A couple of years back there were articles about the town farthest from an Interstate, and Copper Harbor was that town.
