Their Scotch Ale was really good, and it was one of the first craft beers I really liked.

The shame is Motorhead had them make their beer. Arcadia has always been average at best.

I liked many of their beers when they were brewed in Battle Creek, but using new, larger equipment in the Kalamazoo location caused something to happen. None of them were ever as good.

Did they change Brewers then? Some could make the Ringwood obey their wishes, others not so much.

No, I'm sure that Dave Sipple, who was made head brewer in Battle Creek a couple years before that place closed, was also the head brewer in Kzoo when that facility opened. I'm also pretty sure that the bank named him as head of brewing operations when the foreclosure initially occurred, and I saw him in the taproom about a month ago when, as it turns out I made my last visit. Maybe he'll continue to be the head brewer of any contract brewing that occurs since he's familiar with the equipment.

Not a fan of their beers as of late, but I hate when breweries close because that always means people are losing their jobs. I'm sure some of them have families so I won't say good riddance but rather, good luck.

I can't remember but was it Arcadia that sold infected stouts and then told us the tartness was part of the flavor profile? It's hard to keep up with the mediocre breweries along the I-94 corridor.

Yeah, it was the Shipwreck Porter and maybe a BBA Scotch Ale or Imperial Stout.

Which brings up a question - I presume some Shipwreck Porter is stored in barrels somewhere, and today is national Talk Like a Pirate Day when Arcadia liked to release this beer. I wonder where it is and whether it somehow gets sold and bottled (if it's any good)?

I wonder what is going to happen at the Lansing Arcadia location.

Shipwreck porter like 4 or so years ago was such a good beer.

Wasn't that a thing in a thread a ways ago? IIRC, it was around the time I joined. I remember being a bit taken aback by their response to infection claims.

I'm no brewer, but the BA Shipwreck Porter I bought years ago was rrrrrrrrreal bad. I remember thinking to myself, "Why are these nice looking waxed BA bottles still on the shelf? Let's try one!"

Yea it was - you can find it, its still out there.

The gist was, several of us had bad bottles, I had a buddy who works in an unnamed brewery run some tests on the bottle I had and it cam back with a severely abnormal PH level for a stout (implying some level of infection since the ph level was roughly the same as a Flanders red ale). I emailed them with this information and they told me that their stouts were usually in that (abnormal) PH range. I then reported this back on BA in the thread and they said that I was revealing confidential and proprietary information. LMAO.
