I'll wager that the flavor profile is neither bold nor very bourbon forward.

And at the risk of coming across as completely cynical, I would be curious to know just how many staves the beer was aged on. Two? Three? Four or Five?

This is a pretty easy pass...

Should I drink this in a rocks glass like Miller Fortune?

I would have been more interested in it if it wasn't aged on bourbon. A straightforward black lager would have been intriguing.

    Has this been done before?

I might be interested if they were using some other bourbon...

This isn't the first one of those Budweiser Reserve beers that have featured bourbon staves. Not sure if the process is the same, but the others have had absolutely minimal bourbon character. So little that you might not even taste it.

No bet. They aren't even aging it in used barrels. Do they take a barrel apart and float the pieces in ginormous aging tanks?

Anheuser-Busch has been aging beer with bourbon barrels staves since, at least, 2005 with the introduction of Michelob Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale... (and it's not like they're not used to putting little sticks of wood in their lagering tanks...).

When I was in St. Louis and did a brewery tour, they had brewed a black lager for the Solar Eclipse that was on draft at the taproom. It was decent

Yup, I thought the same thing.

I saw the title of the thread and thought, “Oh sweet, I’m always down for more black lagers.”

Then I read the OP and thought, “Gross”.

And it’s still available until March of 2020!

“Budweiser Reserve Black Lager is available nationwide this October through December, while supplies last. Budweiser Reserve Copper Lager is available nationwide through March 2020”

If ABInBev is going to do a black lager, can they bring back this one? [IMG]

@RobHB isn't that just the Amber Lager?

I thought the Copper Lager was surprisingly good. Nothing outstanding or anything, but way better than expected. And, hell, I like Beam Black. I'll try this with an open mind.

I don't know that this has been done before - they had a Jim Beam copper lager before, but I never tried that.
Hmm, interesting ... Ill probably grab a single to try.
    That sounds intriguing!

    First thought: Pass.
Second thought: If I see a single for under two bucks, I might try it.
Third thought: Oh, look - a squirrel!!

Well, there were the 16 oz'ers starting in the mid-50s which came in the "4-can pak"...
