What beer are you drinking now? #2532

Back from walking Ava our dog (Our other dog, Diego, Yorkipoo, age 15 1/2, passed in his sleep last week)...the last couple of mornings have felt empty without the scruffy old man...coffee time - Oskar Blues Brewery’s BA Ten Fidy:

Poured black at 53 degrees with a large mousse-like dark tan head; ruby edges; long cap retention; heavy ring and lacing; thin legs. Sweet caramel malt, bourbon, vanilla and oak nose. Bourbon entry with bittersweet dark chocolate right behind; toffee, oak, vanilla, bitter roast; not boozy. Medium body; smooth feel; moderate minus carbonation; minimal warmth from 12.9%; alcohol bite on tip of tongue. Overall, well balanced between sweet caramel/chocolate base, bitter roast, and barrel notes; pleasing bitter roast linger on the palate.

 

Thanks P. We’ve been dealing/mourning and this is the first I’ve mentioned his passing. Glad he went peacefully, sorry he is gone...

 

Sorry to hear about Diego - it's always a tragedy when a family member dies. At least he went out gently, hopefully dreaming of chasing deer.

Good day BAs! Another cloudy day here in New Braunfels, TX, a northern burb of San Antonio. Allegedly 105 degrees yesterday but it felt coolish - I think the humidity dropped. Off to do more shopping (wifey) again today, and maybe work in a couple of beers at 5 Stones. Today's New (Late) Breakfast Beer:



Leaves something to be desired, but at least not over-priced.

 

Sorry to hear about your loss. We had a scare recently when we thought our 9 year old Rottweiler was going into kidney failure. A competent and empathic Vet solved the problem but the incident did bring to mind what an important part of our lives they are.

 

I was a bit disappointed in this one myself.

 

I've been up for awhile and am in the mood to tackle this brawny fellow . . .




Full, spicy, caramely with a hoppy rye punch. Pleasant and lasting through the finish which is malty and hoppy in about equal measure. I don't notice any of the alcohol mentioned by other reviewers and at 9% ABV it's hardly a blockbuster.

Yeah...I'm really enjoying NEIPAs lately. Aslin's Living to Get Radical - incredible NEIPA with a ton of coconut flavor

 

Belching Beaver PB Milk Stout 5.3%. Tasting good on a rainy morning in San Diego. I don't usually drink the same beer back to back if I have a variety but I'm having another of these.
