Hazy orange gold color with white cap and lacing.

Strongly herbal aroma with lime and algave.

Taste on entry is sweet and fruity like a ripe pear that has been sprinkled with lime juice. Sweetness is a large part of the flavor profile but not overly so, at least in a cloying sense. Not a complex group of flavors but there is a round fullness about it. I do not smell, taste or detect any alcohol which is fairly substantial at 10%. There is something lightly present in the aftertaste which I suspect is the Tequila barrel.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

I don't recall having any Tequila barrel aged beer before so have no point of reference and can't say if that improves things here or not. My overriding impression of this beer is the sweetness and suspect that will be the main appeal.

Without a doubt! It sounds like you can also approach it as broadly being in the grisette family. How's the finish- is it nicely dry?

Happy New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 4, Mission II, (Week 762)!
I CAN't apologize profusely enough for the disjointed nature of these past few weeks! Just when I thought that I had run through a brewery horizontal, odds & sods would begin to Pop! up. 8=( I am close, though, oh so close.

Which reminds me - I found O'so Night Rain on Friday at Dominion Pizza! I had no idea that they had distro outside of Wisco. 8=O

Pours a murky, pineapple colored orange colored. 1 finger yellowish, off white head. Retention is ok. No lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose is very juicy aromaed. Very pineapple juice smelling. I don't get much beyond the pineapple.
Taste - Pineapple juice. That's what I get. There's a bit of other citrus in there, but pineapple is the flavor I get.
Not as creamy as I was expecting, but the body is good. Some carbonation tickles my throat.
Decent beer, and a good entry into this category by NG.

More to come later. Maybe this afternoon, I'll go to my happy place - the Junkyard.

Turkey Town Marzen a 6% ABV Oktoberfest from Untied Brew in New Providence NJ which was named Turkey Hill before NJ was a state. This beer was served at the brewery in a tall Pilsner glass that holds a pint. It pours light amber with a nice off white head. There is a nice malty aroma. The taste is also mostly sweet malt with a touch of hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is light for an Oktoberfest and the finish is off dry. Overall a nice beer but it could be better. Untied has been open for 9 months and there brews keep improving. It's interesting to watch them grow.

I'd say moderately dry. That's an interesting idea regarding grisette, but I think you'll find it to be more of what it's attempting to be - a pilsner. Having said that, I approached it with that framework in mind, and I'd probably feel looser about it if someone just handed it to me blind.

I really, really hope this doesn't find an audience like Tipopils and then starts some kind of silly craft copycat idea of a "Belgian-style Pilsner" like what's happened with "Italian-style Pilsner." I won't bet on that happening, but the thought of it makes me ill. Belgian brewers have a history of making pilsner and I doubt they are intentionally adding "British fungus" to make it their own.

Good afternoon, NBS. I bought this beer earlier this week without much thought other than wondering how Allagash would do with a Pilsner. Then, after seeing @zid post the beer, I figured I'd throw my opinion into the arena. The inclusion of "a hint of wild ale" would not have been expected had I not first read the previous reviews. So this is Truepenny:

The beer has a light to moderate fog in its pale gold, leaning yellow body. The cap of bright white foam doesn't threaten the bounds of the glass, but remains atop the liquid with almost full coverage. Some of it sticks, but not much.

Nose is a mix consisting mostly of grain, with a somewhat saison-like fruit and peppery note and a small amount of noble hops. The taste opens with the dry bready grain and the peppery notes.

The fruit note comes differently in each sip - sometimes a little more acidic, others more like a slightly tart pear. It isn't a prominent part of the taste for most of the glass, and generally seems a little stronger when I am focused on it. There is an herbal and peppery fairly dry ending to the beer.

I would assume it is the wild component that is bringing the fruit notes. I can also imagine that this would be a enjoyable regular Pilsner were it not in there, thinking that the bitterness might be a bit more pronounced. All things together, it has a bit more balance - more like some Helles and Kolsch I have had.

We're having a beautiful, if a bit hot, weekend here in northern NJ. I had some work to do just over the NYS border in Warwick yesterday which put me within striking distance of Industrial Arts brewery on my way home. And coincidentally, they just released their Autumn Landscape seasonal this weekend, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to get a jump start on enjoying it.

This year it's a Festbier Lager (in the pale style, iow).

The beers of this series are all made entirely with NYS ingredients; and if there's any thread that has run through all of their profiles it has to be a wonderfully rustic spiciness. Last year I attributed that to the rye in the grain bill, but since the last few entries have all been pale and don't feature rye I'm going to have to assume it's from whatever kind of hops are being grown in NY.

Either way, it's a fantastic quality in these lagers, and Industrial Arts allows this flavor to be prominent yet not overly obtrusive. This beer is pretty beefy, as you'd expect with a festbier, but it finishes nice and dry with a significant hit of bitterness. The initial taste is malty and sweet, but that dry bitter finish keeps it nicely in check. Flavors are of white raisin, pale baguette crust and that steady stream of herbal spiciness. It's a really charming beer, if a bit rough around the edges. And steadily interesting right to the last drop of the first can. Another winner from Industrial Arts! A (4.5)

Not a ton of foamy beige head, but enough to inspire a fairly wet and uniform lacing. Burnt orange color is very reminiscent of the lighter original but separates itself from the latter with a non Northeast haze. Nose jumps out with a fruity spiciness not unlike those Christmas spice gummies. Backing that experience is a tiny bit of veggie before a hint of that caramel malty backbone. Taste immediately demands attention as it is all at once a bitter, orangey, hot blast that seems like its out to quickly prove that it is not regular Two Hearted. No, this thing is closer to being something that Stone would have made 10 years ago. It’s menacing and masterfully balanced. Finishes with the same attitude as there’s just barely some dryness as it exits with a slightly sweet bitterness.

I really should have picked a case of this up, as it really fills a void in my IPA life since the never ending Nor’easter set in about 4 years ago... hopefully more IPAs start trending back to this. Looking at you, Greg.

Poured from a 12 oz can dated 9/16/19 into the test glass.
A - Very much in keeping with HFB IPA's Dark straw color, translucence adds cover for the carbonation. Strong white froth cap lacing with every draw.
S - Ripe melon, fresh pineapple, some notes of orange peel, spring pine. green grape
T - Orange creamsicle, again wine grape, some papaya sherbet,
M - Hear the offering shines, pillowy soft on the palate, gentle carbonation is steady and relentless adding to the experience. Semi sweet start then a wave of just enough bitterness parades through cleaning up. The linger is tropical with that melon element is the background
O - A very good IPA from one of the very best at this style.

Well, it's time to go to the Junkyard on this New Beer Sunday.

Big Kahuna from Junkyard Brewing. Clocks in at 11%.

Oh, my. This is one hell of a big beer. The only downside is the aroma is lacking. I was expecting more from that department.

Whatever, it doesn't matter, because it's damn tasty.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.25

Pours a thick black color. 2 1/2 finger tan head. Retention is not the best, but for a 11% beer, the retention is decent. Some lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose is not too strong. I do get a hint of coconut. I get a hint of lactose. I get a hint of chocolate. I was expecting more in the aroma department.
Taste - Lots of coconut in the flavor. There's chocolate also that mixes in with the coconut.
Deep, full, thick bodied. It's a strong beer, but doesn't have hardly any alcohol burn.
This is one full bodied beer. Maybe only lacking in the aroma.

I'll be working this for quite a while, but I think I can get through my backlog of new beers before the hammer drops on me.
