Is that a new beer or have they done it before?

I hope they changed the recipe because it was pretty bad first time around.

Yeah, I saw that on a liquor store's social media and this hadn't been posted. In the small print on the label I saw "Imperial Blackberry" and thought it looked like a gose. I would have stopped to pick it up had I know it was a blackberry Jones Dog....

Anyone else assuming/hoping that all these new imperial stouts coming out in cans are also resting in barrels as well?

As long as they are not cognac or brandy barrels, yes!

I've got to think they've taken extreme measures to make sure infections don't occur again...which I assume means flash pasteurization. Not sure if @NOTpipeworks can comment.

As for scotch...I don't think I've ever liked a beer aged in a scotch barrel. It's not that I don't think it's a quality spirit...it's that it dominates a beer into submission quicker than Royce Gracie.

I wasn’t even referring to the infection issues, just personal preference for barrels.

Also, I never had Turtledogg, but I really enjoyed Dia Oscura. I know I’m clearly in the minority there, but I think it worked well. Not many beers can meld with a scotch barrel though, but it cut the sweetness of DL nicely I thought.

Have you tried Revolution’s Gravedigger Billy? The scotch blends well, not overpowering. Creamy rich mouthfeel, packs a kick as it warms but very manageable, at least in terms of Barrel Aged offerings.

You may like a taste of you get the chance.

Good call...checked my reviews on here, and I really liked it.

    Man, my memory is shit.

After so many beers, it’s hard for all of us to recall. I’m with you, more of a whiskey than Scotch guy and haven’t met many Scotch beers I like, Gravedigger Billy being the primary exception. Lake Effect has a good Barrel Aged Scotch offering they’ll likely release at FOBAB. Can’t think of any others on my end that are standouts.

As long as we're paging @NOTpipeworks, was wondering if we are going to see Reaper vs. Unicorn this fall? I always enjoy the seasonal barleywines & the rye in Reaper made it one of my favorites

Gravedigger Billy is a Scotch Ale aged in bourbon barrels. Don’t think it sees any Scotch barrels.
