Have a nice Saturday BA. Not much going on today for me. Might make a beer run to my usual store, but I have a ton of stuff to review right now.

The Bruery Vermont Sticky Maple. This was amazing. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, wood, roasted nuts, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, butterscotch, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, and yeast earthiness. Very minimal bitterness or bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and super full body; very creamy/silky/velvety malts and some slickness in the mouthfeel. Minimal sticky hops, chalky roast, or oak tannins. Slightly increasing lingering bitter/spicy dryness; no cloying sweetness. Dangerously smooth/soft sipping; mild increasing warmth of 11.3%, no lingering barrel booze. Perfectly balanced super rich malts, and maple syrup; with solid bourbon barrel presence/integration. Light fruity yeast and earthy hops. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. I think this is what Black Tuesday should be. Super rich without the booze fest from the ABV/Barrels. Better than any weekday variant I've reviewed.

New In Mourning album is amazing.

Decadent Raspberry French Toast. Incredible NEDIPA. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, cinnamon, wood, and light peppercorn/pine hops; with moderate maple syrup, vanilla, cream, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; berry tang/tartness; and cinnamon spiciness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy, silky, bready malts; light sticky hops, fruit tang/acids in the mouthfeel. Slight lingering resins/rinds through the glass. Feels like Citra/Mosaic as with most of their DIPA. Super juicy hops/fruit, with light dank/earthy notes; with perfectly balanced sugars and wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Glad I got the 4 pack as expected. Right on par with most of the others.

Bell's Double Two Hearted. This was fantastic. Aromas and flavors of huge ruby red grapefruit, mandarin orange juice, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, and pine hops; with balanced honey, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nutty malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild booze in the aromas as it warms. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts and some sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy alcohol dryness, no cloying/astringent. Very smooth/soft, mild increasing warmth of 11% after the finish. Amazing Centennial showcase as expected. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a nice sized balancing malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. More candied-like citrus and a bigger malt backbone; but just as balanced from the 2.5X extra hops. Did not prefer it over the base beer, but will buy the regular more often than I have been.

This was a more appropriate beer for me earlier in the week, but I didn’t feel like drinking that day. So starting the weekend with a Barrel Aged Birthday Bomb! Happy Saturday, all.

Austin Brothers Steve Murkel. This was incredible. Opaquely hazy green color. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, and light peppercorn/pine hops; with moderate wheat, biscuit dough, light honey/toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body. Very creamy, silky, bready malts; light sticky hops, and slight lingering resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no cloying/astringency. Amazingly smooth/soft, minimal warming 6.7%. Amazing Citra, Mosaic, Idaho 7 profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank/earthy hops; with a perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. One of their best yet.

Beautiful clear amber gold color with good cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet caramel malt and toffee. I get an edge of freshness which may be hops but it's just a light sprinkling.

Taste of deep caramel malt with a bit of toffee thrown in. If they are using some roasted malt as well I'm not tasting it. Fairly simple flavors that are full without being aggressive. Hopping level is low and I think sweetness is being emphasized here.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

Brewer says they are using a combination of German Vienna and Munich malts and the flavors have the accompanying sweetness we associate with those. It may be my grumpy old age but I'm less drawn to sweetness now than I was in my younger days. Anyway, it's good beer and worth a go if you come across one.

Fantastic Gose as always. Flavors of tart/sour cherry, lemon, lime, green apple, wheat, cracker, coriander, sea salt, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness and lightly spicy/tannic fruit finish. Balanced cherry/lacto acidity, salinity, and grainy wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Highly drinkable and refreshing, minimal puckering. One of my all time favorites in the style. Does not feel quite as lactically sour as previous years, but still fantastic and easier drinking. Found some old back stock from 2017. Hope they bring it back, apparently retired now as it's not on their website. They really trimmed down their lineup I guess.

    Morning BA!

    Cold morning today.
Wife came home from work this morning and put the heat on . Wuss. Only 46° outside

Felt this one was lacking something this morning, so jazzed it up with a shot of coffee liqueur. Turned out rather good.

    Morning!

Blackbeard's Breakfast is a very affordable, but ultimately mediocre coffee BBA imperial stout (err porter, according to the brewer). I sat on this bottle for about a year, hoping it would mellow and smooth out. I mean, it's certainly not bad - and I'm going to honor my original review, despite a couple of experiences now that have been lackluster.

    Cheers!
