CANBIF: Fall 2019!

For the person that I'll be sending beers to, I have been to your city twice. It has an amazing craft beer scene. Johnny K's rocks!

To the person that got me, you will notice that my beer count on Untappd is quite high. As a teacher, I travel a lot for craft beer during my holidays. It's the season for pumpkin beers and I enjoy them. I would appreciate receiving pumpkin beers from your area.

As I previously mentioned, I also like stouts, IPAs, smoked beers, barleywines, barrel aged beers. I enjoy most types of beers except for very acidic sours. They tend to be painful to drink. Funky beers, lambics, Flanders Reds are fine.

My target is to the west, however that would always be the case.

To my target. I like well made beer. I love big things stored in barrels, I love crisp malt driven lagers, I love lambic and other wood aged beer in the like. I am good with IPA, love stouts, porter, enjoy a well crafted kolsch.

Not a huge fan of quick sours, hoppy beer that has no bitterness at all, non hoppy red ale, or things so sour they hurt to drink.

Also just to be perfectly clear I love barleywine. English BW is my preferred, but classic american will do. Thrown into a barrel, all the better.

I have been near your city but did not stop as I was heading to a city nearby with a distillery.

I have already started to buy you some local beers, am awaiting upcoming releases, and awaiting your wish list which I will try very hard to make come true!.


To my Santa Claus

I could list many big beers I would like to get but I will keep it simple.

I am a big fan of stouts and porters (imperial, barrel-aged, etc.): the darker, the thicker, the better!

IPAs are also welcome as are any other styles. You can also throw in ice ciders and meads.

I am not a big fan of sours that require a bottle of Pepto Bismol as a shooter.

I would appreciate receiving beers from your areas that are not that accessible in the Gatineau/Ottawa area. You should receive via Electros an Excel spreadsheet of the beers I have had (I am trying to make your life easier as I find it is easier to go through a spreadsheet than through a website).

I am GRM on RateBeer and Barbu on untappd.

 

To my sender: I like all styles really except sours with a focus on acidity. I prefer smaller size bottles but a few bigger bottles is always welcome for tastigns.

I’ve been known to consume beers of all styles and sizes on any/all occasions.

I am on instagram (mike.legge) and have posted a good portion of the beers Ive enjoyed! I enjoy new beers and returning favorites! I have untappd but dont use it regularly. I am not a huge ticker and love to return to old favorites.

Some of my favorite styles are fresh IPA/DIPA, farmhouse, saisons, grisette, most things BA or foudre aged, especially wine barrel, wild ales, mixed/spontaneous fermentation, lambic.

I also really enjoy well crafted lagers (pilsners and german styles mostly). Vim and Vigor from Tooth and nail is one of my favorites.

I love interesting beers that have some uniqueness. I also love a good stout (regular and/or BA) every now and then especially with winter coming. But will drink most anything that is well made!

I don’t have too many specific wants but am a huge fan of breweries such as Anchorage (Time Waits for No One and Darkest Hour 750ml are the only 2 beers on the top my wish list that I have been trying to find for a while), Jester King, Auval, anything from those places (or similar spots) would be amazing. Have not had much from the US in the way of hops.

The styles I typically don’t enjoy are anything Pumpkin, heavily spiced beers (cinnamon, nutmeg etc.), hefeweizen, anything smoked, black IPA’s, and beers heavy with lactose (Milkshark and well done stouts being the exception). But I’m open if you have one that you think is a must try!

The big thing for me is to try interesting beers I can’t get around here. Odds are if you like it I will!

To my Target:

My target will be receiving a box loaded with East Coast goodies (which we have in spades) and some cellar pulls. Hopefully they post a fairly detailed wants list so I can tailor a box to their specific preferences!

Hint #2 - At the time of this post the weather in your city looks fairly nice at 12 °C, Wind SE at 26 km/h, 78% Humidity.

My previous story was pretty short but finally, it is Friday so it is beer talks time.

I am on a dark and malty side. IMHO nothing can be better than good strong Stout or Barleywine. Especially if it is barrel-aged. Pastry stouts are also at the top of my list. And all different kinds of dark beer. Porters, Brown ales, etc.


We are also old friends with IPAs especially if they are moderately strong and juicy. But any kinds are good aswell Triple, Double, Single… Hazy, Milkshake…

I am not really it farmhouses and sour beer. But indeed don’t mind trying anything interesting a pint of a good beer it is always a pint of a good beer.

I'd definitely consider myself a ticker. I'm not too picky and enjoy most well crafted beers. I do however, love getting my hands on any bevarage from a "hyped" brewery.

Basically I'll be happy to receive an assortment of your local favourites. If you are high on a local brewery, I will likely enjoy it as well.

I'm am not huge on spiced/herbed beers, but can get on board with almost anything else - including craft lagers.

I will do my best to meet your checklist. However, the availability of local brews meeting your preferences could make it a little tricky.

I'm leaning towards taking advantage of CPs Tuesday promo, so you can likely expect to get a couple smaller packages. Hopefully you enjoy the variety of NB and surrounding beers headed your way!

 

To my senders, thank you for your time, effort and kindness selecting and packing things up. I truly mean that.

I'll drink anything... except hazy beers. I despise haze bombs. But I do like a proper IPA that is bright, bitter and dry. I don't like fake sours; if it's called a sour it should be sour, not mildly tart and inoffensive. Love sours, barleywine, saison and lagers. Really like barrel-aged stuff.

To my senders... I'll be mailing next week and the week after... beer delayed, but not beer denied. Happy trading to everyone!
