It's the holiday season, a joyous month & a half of sharing time, food & beer with friends & family. Such occasions certainly warrant generosity. You've done your homework, you've called, emailed, waited in lines, driven, traded, cellared, packed, flown etc and you've sunk good money into your beers, waiting for the proper occasion to bust out your delicious beers to share with others.

The sharing moment arrives, you generously offer up your beer...only to receive a "no thank you" from the recipient. Are you kidding? Seriously? You dont want some of _______?

What beers have you had shot down?

I'll start it off just with some turndowns of the last 24 hours.
    - Founders Breakfast Stout
    - Bruery Autumn Maple
    - Surly Abrasive Ale

Sadly, I had my best friend turn down a chance at a fine local, Palomino Pale Ale, and he asked the waitress to bring him a Bud Lite. I told him I'd pay, and if he didn't like it I'd drink it & get him his swill. He declined. Nice to note that his father who was visiting town from the East coast loved the local, and had a few.

FBS for me as well. I've also had folks who don't know any better refuse FFF Zombie Dust, Great Divide Hercules DIPA, and Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro.

Most shocking to me was the refusal to split Surly Darkness... I had to drink the whole bottle myself over the course of an afternoon. Poor me. Yes, I know lots of you BAs would have gladly taken one for the team.

OP, I'm not surprised someone turned down Abrasive. Overly hoppy DIPAs are not something lots of people like. It'd be like someone turning down Ruination, which would also be pretty common in my small circle of drinkers.

I convinced a beer drinking friend of mine to try Pumking. His first sip, "That is absolutely disgusting". That was a sad moment for me. On the bright side, I gave one of my home brewed stouts to a non craft beer drinking friend and he said it was excellent.

Got some Founders Breakfast Stout recently and really liked it. Saved a bottle for my dad for him to try. Gave it big, resounding "Meh". I stammered a "really?". Major let down.

My wife's bestfriends poured out her portion of Stone 10 when we were doing a tasting and I almost karate chopped her ass.

Nothing I love hearing more than 'what the hell is this? Vinegar? This should be on a a salad' when offering a good sour to someone to try.

Pumking is one of my go-to converters for non-craft drinkers. Stouts are also generally good, especially if the convert is a coffee lover.

Had to do the same with my Darkness on T-Day! I was ok with it!

Absolutely agree, Abrasive can be a very tough sell, even to a seasoned beer drinker.

I bought my dad a bottle of Chimay Blue for Christmas two years ago and it's still in his fridge. A small part of me wants to take it since I'm rarely able to let good beers sit that long.

happens to me every time I try to convert my wife into a hop head. she loves the stouts and dark malt bombs, but whenever I try to get her to try something hoppy she makes that "I just drank something really nasty" face  and shakes her head.

I don't get this. Why is anyone surprised when someone who doesn't drink craft beer turns one down or doesn't like the taste?

Would anyone be surprised about a similar situation with any other food or drink? Like offering someone who never eats fish a piece of smoked salmon and being surprised that they didn't want it or didn't like it. Why would beer be any different?

SN Bigfoot '12 and Bruery Autumn Maple. You can hype it all you want, but I think people still don't know what to expect. In saying this, I had to come into a state of mind, of what to expect, just so I could get through my Burton Baton  ...just can't come to draining it.

Whenever I'm in Bamberg, Germany, with the in-laws, visits to Schlenkerla are generally shot down. On the final day of our last week-long visit, I said I was going with or without them. After having drunk their fair share of Spezial Rauchbier in the days leading up, they finally tried Schlenkerla -- and remarked on how they now preferred it to Spezial. Hoping that they'll remember this next trip!

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I mean I fully support trying to get your friends and family into craft, but being surprised they don't like something that has a billion times more flavors than what they are used to drinking is a little strange.

That said as I was sharing a Hardywood Gingerbread stout with my brother in law at thanksgiving dinner my mother in law out of nowhere asks me for a pour. She's a wine drinker and I've never seen her drink any beer. So she handed me a shot glass and I filled it up. She took a sip....an hour later the shot glass was still full.

I have a story from the opposite direction. Sitting my parents house for the Lions debacle and my brother in law is drinking his ML next to me, while I'm sipping on my last KBS 2009. In the fridge: 2010 KBS, 2010 Backwoods, and 2011 Imperial Stout...he says he likes Founder's, I say grab one. Of course he grabs the KBS. At least he enjoyed it. No big deal, happy to give him something new he hasn't had and enjoyed it!

Two days ago, my brother-in-law (who only drinks Coors Light) didn't like a 3 oz taster of 2012 Parabola. He still finished the whole 3 oz though.
