Regular might. I wouldn’t expect anything else to survive the day.

There are always people with coolers drinking in line anytime the line gets a couple dozen people. Some would gladly trade/share. I generally try and set up any trades for local area stuff I missed in advance so I don't have a whole lot on hand that isn't spoken for prior to my arrival.

I would expect all variants to sell out early Saturday and regular Stay Puft to follow shortly there after, maybe it will last into Sunday, I don't think a week. Not this particular beer.

Normally Barreled Souls is pretty chill but people went absolutely ****oo at the last release and the limits weren't thought through very well. Following from afar everything sold out within 1-2 hours at the last/first sale, and while BS posted on social media afterward apologizing that they did not spread out the bottles to enough people, I think it will be a lot to ask to expect bottles lingering much past opening Sunday if that.

FYI following on social, at 10am there were 200+ people in line and they dropped the strawberry jam limit to 1pp.

Open your bottles over the sink, folks. My first started gushing immediately and I lost about 1/3 of the bottle to the kitchen floor and sink. Tastes fine, but I'm worried about the other bottles. Any recommendations to prevent gushing in the other bottles?

This happened last year too. Not a great mistake to make two years in a row... I believe last year they said keep bottles cold until opening and even brewed an unplanned second batch to satisfy demand and replace bottles.

Thanks for the info. I'll throw mine in the fridge and hope for the best.

Slab in Portland has flights of all 4 available if anyone missed out yesterday. PB and Strawberry were my favorite out of the 4.

Headed to the release Saturday, I was kinda shocked at the crowd this year.

We showed up at 9:00 a.m. and were about 50th in line. Was a little disappointed, but not shocked they adjusted limits before open. I just felt like they should have run with normal limits for the people who showed up and waited early (probably cause I was one of them). But at the end of the day, if the plan was to get these beers in more people's hands, they did just that.

I hope i'm not holding bottle bombs as mentioned above. Especially after last year. I have not cracked a bottle yet, but I did head over to the tap room after I got my bottles and tried them all on tap.

I thought they were all really good beers. I had a slight preference to the Booker B.A. version of last years. The Peanut Butter Variant had the most peanutbutter taste i've ever had in a beer. Very nice roasty character, loved it. The Regular version might have been the best smelling stout of the bunch. Sweet Marshmellow and taste followed suit, nice carbonation, nice mouth feel. The strawberry I maybe should have let warm up a little more, it was definitely there, but faint . It was still good, but one had to come in 4th.

Overall it was not to bad a day, the bottle release went pretty smooth, the limit adjustment rubbed some people the wrong way in my area. The tap room, got slammed and they were just not set up to have that many flights going around. Everyone was getting the 4 variants on flights to try them all and they were having a pretty challenging time getting 4oz. glasses and the flight blocks returned in a timely fashion. It held up the line early on. People were hanging outside with the beautiful weather, and leaving those things out there, and the girls pouring were slammed and had to balance pours and recovery. But once they sold out of bottles the rest of the crew returned to the tap room and got that under control and it was smooth sailing the rest of the day.

That’s too bad, I was hoping to pick up the bottles I have on hold and bring some directly to friends for sharing. I guess I can leave them in the fridge at their place for a while in hopes that they don’t gush as much.

Stored cold as suggested and opened a pb tonight. Happy to report there was no gushing with this one.

Enjoying a Stay Puft on this beautiful Sunday. This is an excellent bottle of beer. No gushing to report.

What are the chances that the release Saturday lasts the day? I have never been to a release before and am wondering if it will still be around Sunday

FWIW Barreled Souls is not as under the radar as during some of my previous experiences, but I'd say for anything other than the Stay Puft releases you should be fine with the beer lasting to Sunday.

I'll be headed there for Teo.

I think as mentioned your safe on this one. Other than Stay Puft they usually last a little while. Also my rule of thumb, if they are selling it in the tap room, your in no rush. People will casually go there and grab their bottles.

If they anticipate crowds they will release out of the production facility around the corner on mills street. Tap room/parking is not set up well for big crowds.

Just wanted to revive this thread and say that the Souls Society party this past Sunday was really well done. Good size, awesome beer lineup and a couple special tappings: Trying next years Stay Puft in Willet Barrels was pretty cool, and and upcoming Old Ale brewed with Horus was excellent. And for those who like pastry stouts, their Make Me a Stout, Clown was great.

Did you ever get to try the Buffalo Trace Stay Puft? If so, how does it compare to the Willet and Booker's versions? I thought Booker's was ridiculous and need to try the BT.

Just here to say that Make Me a Stout, Clown was an absolute fire beer. I want this injected into my diabetes-ridden veins. Missed the bottle release Saturday (I drowned my sorrows in other top-notch beers throughout the greater Portland area), but if you have a chance to stop by the tasting room for a draft and like big stouts, by god do it.

I have not tried the Buffalo Trace! Looking at next years member perks, they clearly are focusing on stay puft...doing a double stay puft sounds awesome.
