If you look for them, sure. But there are different philosophies in every state. Santa Cruz is very different from Bakersfield in CA. Austin is very different from D as glad in Texas. Every state is basically the same.

    Peace.

My family tradition is military, just the way it is. My son lives on the edge and he’s currently deployed. His ass is on the line every god damn day, and I’m sensitive to that, he’s got twin girls in WA that need their father.

I actually feel as little guilty. I'm the first member of my family since the revolutionary war to not serve. I had an appointment to Annapolis and blew it off. I would have had my ass kicked out, but still feel a little shitty.

Wow, an appointment is big time, but that’s a lifetime commitment imo if you go that route. Especially at 18, it’s not for everyone, but you could have been leading a platoon or a company of Marines for 5 years. Lol, no thanks.

Right? So instead I went to university of Hawaii and spent my time blowing off class and scuba diving. Nothing like making the best of your opportunities.

Lol, you made the right choice there, how cool is that. Right on the money, I would have done the same thing.

As long as everyone is happy at the end, it's a good thread.

Well we are all what we are, we’re a mix of America and we see things differently. But, it’s ok.

Friendly public service announcement: I'm cleaning up some of the egregiously off-topic and personal posts on this thread that have been reported. Please keep it civil, and get it back to beer. Nothing personal to those whose posts may have been removed from public view on the thread; some just went a little too far.

    Thanks!

Bars that make it difficult if not impossible to know what's on tap. For instance I recently went into a bar across town to have have a beer or two. It was somewhat of a dive bar, but I had read some old reviews on Yelp from a year or more ago which mentioned that besides the usual swill they also carried a half dozen or so decent beers.

I walk in and see that the tap handles are located on the far wall, away from where you sit/stand to order. The lighting is also quite dim, making it basically impossible to read the handles, not that all tap handles are easily read anyway. So I look for some kind of board on the wall that might show what beers they have on tap. Nope. I also check around to see if maybe there was some sort paper list laying around on the bar or one of the tables. Nope.

Eventually I was able to get the attention of the bartender, and asked him what they had. After rattling through the usual Bud, Miller, Coors, Corona etc crud I asked if he had any IPAs, not that I am an IPA fan but because I figured if they stocked anything besides the BMC crud it would probably be an IPA. He had to go over to the tap handles and look at them, then finally mentioned that they had "Lanugitus" (sic), "Aura Hoppelius" (sic) and Stone (he did get that one right).

It looked like there might have been a couple of other handles that were non-BMC that I may have been interested in, but at that point someone called for his attention and I never found out what they were and probably wouldn't have done any good to ask anyway, so I ended up waiting long enough to order a "Aura Hoppelius", drink it and leave.

Bar owners-tenders etc, can we please easily see what you have available on tap? I may well have ordered more beers that time, or even visited again in the future, but as it is I think I'll skip that place from now on.

    .....because I deserve it.

There, I edited that a little bit for you just to finish your thought.

I don't know if I deserve it. I'm just a pain in the ass and don't think people should have to deal with me when I'm annoyed.

That "I" in my thought extension wasn't aimed at you because I didn't read it that you're describing yourself. My definition of the Gen X includes so many who think they are entitled, that's who I aimed at.

It's all good. I never take anything personal. I do believe that the defining trait of gen x is ambivalence or perhaps cynicism. Millennials are entitled. Boomers are selfish. Great generation got their name for a good reason.

Everything cycles I suppose, right now there a ton of lagers and Pils on the shelf. Two years ago you’d really have to hunt then down, and the NEIPA thing is dying imo. Not near as many as there was a bit ago. Pretty soon it’ll be back to black lagers and such, and I wish Stone would bring back Subliminally Self Righteous, that was a great beer when fresh.

I'm a bit confused apparently. I am a baby boomer. You noted earlier that your parents were greatest generation, but you are only 50?? How can that be?

Baby Boomers were born following WWII. Starting in '46. My aprents were born in '39 and '41. I don't actually remember when I said my parents were Greatest Generation, thogh. But I can't remember what happened to my last 4 bottle of Celebration, so there you go.
