It will be on the way shortly to distro and a permanent fixture at that! I am one of those in the hinterlands too...just happened to be in the city and near the brewery today when I saw the news in the thread!

I had one on draft last week and remembered why I don't drink Hefes after IPAs....

The Hefe cans are just awesome. I got a Pipeworks hefe can I want to pop soon too, will be interesting to compare the two.

While that comparison will be fun, it won’t be fair to pipeworks

Yeah I had the PW can last night and Dovetail's is just so good. PW is solid but Dovetail's is excellent.

Awaiting your thoughts. PDubs was nice but my least favorite of their german beers thus far.

dovetail hefe is in my future this weekend.

The one I’m really excited to put it up against in Pollyanna's Humpenscrump

You can look one post up for them  But basically, PW's is a solid but unspectacular hefe.

You're another person who has said really good things about Pollyanna's lighter offerings. I will really have to revisit their beers. I was really turned off by finding their stouts very underwhelming.

Your wish will be granted this Thursday at Dovetail's premier release of a Kolsch offering.

    Thursday, October 24
    4:00 - 10:00 pm Dovetail Kölsch Night!
Dovetail Brewery, 1800 W. Belle Plaine Ave., Chicago (773) 683-1414
One thing we get asked a lot is, "When are you going to make a Kölsch?" Well, guess what? We did. And we're going to release our first Kölsch-style beer with a night of traditional Kölsch service – from 4-10pm, our taproom will turn into a bierstube à la Köln, where we will serve you 200mL stange of Kölsch until you say "Stop." Don't forget to tip your Köbes!

I'd be all over that if it was a weekend. Thursday is tough though.

Is it fairly easy to find dovetail cans in the wild in the city? Do they distribute to neighboring states at all? Will only be in town briefly around the holidays and I already know how popular me insisting on a beer hunt will be

Their cans are pretty easy to find. Helles and Vienna are most places. I haven't seen the Hefe yet, but that just got put out in the wild.

Cool, looking forwards to trying some of their stuff. Might just push for a real early trip to the city ahead of our flight home to get a trip to the taproom in.
Is it Illinois only or might I find some in wisco or MI?

Got Kolsch? Big turnout for the release, still some room, German food and seating. Very cool event.

I think they just distribute in Chicago ... but someone from WI/MI can correct me if I'm wrong.

I think they have the groundwork laid for distro to Indiana or something like that, but not sure if they use it or not.

We currently distribute almost exclusively to Chicago and the surrounding metro area.

    So how was the Kolsch??

Also every time I look at the Dovetail menu and don't see Czech dark lager I get sad.

This was my first time to the brewery, staff and pours were great. The Kolsch was a very good pour. New Glarus' Kid Kolsch is the only one I have rated slightly higher among the dozen Kolsch's I've rated.

The aroma was light, but the taste was bolder, bread / cracker, pepper, grassy. Slightly dry and bitter, persistent carbonation, clean finish. $3 for 1/5 litter pour, will be available starting today downstairs.

Have stuck with my preferred three in that area in the past (Half Acre, Spiteful and HopLeaf), Dovetail has now been added to the mix, though half the patrons seemed to be dogs, with some angst when they were told the event was upstairs where dogs are not allowed.
