Barley Forge Brewing Co. is closing

I think the only real "players" who have a chance at making that location work are the bigger So Cal breweries like Bottle Logic, Stone, Modern Times, etc... who don't really need to focus on the retail location as much as the space and facility to make more beer. The retail location really only gets people who just want to hang and have something cold. Bootleggers for example, the people who go aren't hard core hazy bois they are just locals who want to drink a few cold ones after a meal they had at the camp and just hang out. I think it only works because they are not brewing their beer at that location so they have 1-10th of the space requirements that Barley Forge had.

 

It would be nice to see BL expand and maybe open a second spot... surely they’re doing well enough financially. Their place is packed every day of the week and every release they have sells out quickly. I honestly do not enjoy going over there anymore (and I only live about 5 minutes away) because if you’re not there at opening, good luck finding any place to sit. It’s become such a hassle since they closed the back of the brewery for public access, they essentially chopped their tasting room space in half. That being said, they’ve invested so much time and resources in expanding their footprint at their current location that I don’t think a move or a second location is likely anytime soon.

 

Wow I feel the same way. I'm in Anaheim often, and I love their beer, and get pretty much every release, but I haven't had anything on sight since WOL. It's just a shit house every time I try and get a beer their and never worth the hassle / wait. Sadly I just drive over to Bruery and even worse that X place that has sub par beer, but everything else is 10 times better.

 

I usually only have 1-2 tasters per visit now and bounce right away because of the crowding issue, but I've never felt like the line was a big problem. It moves at a pretty good clip considering there are only 2 registers.

Standing room only does suck though, especially when you have more than one drink in hand.

I agree the place is tiny and no where to sit.
Bottle logic is one of the top five must see breweries in OC along with green cheek that I recommend to people that are visiting from out of town. On Fridays it has one of the better tap lists around. On Sunday however.....

Gunwhale opened a second location before Bottle Logic expanded their first one. And also before MT opens Leisuretown.

 

But do they have a Pool?

 

The idea of beer nerds in a pool isn’t an appealing one to me. They can skip the pool as far as I’m concerned.

Seriously. Every person you don't see getting out of the pool at least every 30 minutes, you can rest assured that you're wading in their processed hazy.

 

Don’t bother with this dude. Some people just hate things that many people like in the hopes that it makes them stand out.

 

I agree, like it's been mentioned here often. Their BA program is great but their IPA's and sours are just meh.

I enjoy most of the one-off WCIPAs they do there. They are way better than almost any hazy I've ever had by them.

 

When is Barley Fart closing? Just saw them pop up on IG. I thought it was Oct 31.

They posted back in October about being up for bid now and the process will be complete by December 11th, so we're to expect an announcement about new ownership then. They'll remain open while this is going on.

 

Looks like they have a full buy out offer at $725k, but of course are holding out for more.
