Just drank my first amalgamator can last night and fully understand why it came up in the Russian river thread, definitely has that same clean balanced bitter bite that blind pig and Pliny have. Great beer

Well, Beachwood surpassed the glowing recommendations offered above. Amalgamator was most excellent, I do concur this WCIPA can stand toe to toe with PtE or other world class WCIPAs. This is one of the few styles our fine Chicago brewers collectively come up short, and I am very appreciative to have had this pour. I also had the Citraholic, which I found very good.

Coffee stouts and other coffee beers are among my favorite, and Mocha Machine ranks among the best I have ever had. Bold roast coffee aroma, very forward taste blends well with the roasted malt. ABV well masked, nice body, perfect balance, couldn't ask for more.

My final pour (make that two) was the Hops of Brixton. I really like this style, with Honker's Ale one of my first craft beers ever, and this one among the best I have tried. Pepper, nice roast malt, bread, caramel, grass and floral hops, this beer covers a lot of ground. I can say without reservation this is the only English Bitter that matters.

Was able to bring home Amalgamator (canned 10/26!), Fortune Favors the Funk and Earthbound Misfit Cherum, and very much look forward to their FOBAB pours and possibly a return trip to The Beer Temple if anything remains on tap over the next few days.

Thanks again to all who offered your recommendations!

Yea we're somewhat spoiled now, 'Gator and Citra are part of regular production, so can usually find them with mere weeks on the cans at any of the locations, and for only $13 a 16oz 4pack.

I remember when Amalgamator was only released rotationally in bombers. I would get SO EXCITED whenever they announced a new batch. Then I was both excited and also a bit bummed when they went year-round with it because I knew that special feeling would disappear.

I don't always buy it now when I see it (I rarely go to bottle shops anymore), but it's nice having it there as an option whenever I need to replenish the WCIPA in my fridge. Still my favorite Beachwood beer of all time.

A few years ago when i moved to LB and started going to BW more i remember an instance with a guy coming up, ordering an amalgamator and being so excited he couldnt stop moving his body. Dude was humping the bar hahah. If thats you, youre a weirdo but i dig the enthusiasm!

Went to the Fortune Favors the Funk guided tasting tonight. The new batch is fantastic, and I'm really sad it's being retired, as it is one of my favorite Blendery beers.

After the tasting, Harrison took several of us through the barrel room and talked shop. There are definitely some interesting beers (and beer like beverages) on the horizon at the Blendery

    Spontaneous Celebration - The List!

    http://beachwoodbbq.com/pdf/SpontaneousCelebration.pdf

The Beachwood Sour Fest you know and love BUT kicked up a notch to celebrate wild beer. This year’s celebration will highlight spontaneously fermented rare beers from all over. PLUS you can count on a rad lineup of other non-spontaneous sour beers to make an appearance, because why not - we like to party.

See you in Seal Beach and at the Blendery Dec 12-14.

    Cheers!
    BW
