First one of the year for me.

The wife was inside listening to Christmas music. I was outside putting away furniture and listening to some of my favorite songs from 2011.

 

Light golden color with good cap and lacing.

Aroma of sweet, rich grain with herbal/floral spicy hops.

Malt/grain flavors first, with just a tinge of sweetness, but hops play a meaty supporting role. The hops don't have that floral spicy character of the Noble varieties, rather this one displays a hop firmness with an herbal undertone. I quite like it, both for the flavors and the sophisticated complexity. The hop firmness reminds me more of a Dortmunder than a Pils but hey, whatever the brewer want's to call it is fine by me because this is a good one.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation. Who says low ABV beers can't have body.

This one sings a simple tune colored by exciting subtle variations.

 

So JEALOUS!

Other Half Triple Nelson Daydream (100% Nelson). Lots of great out-of-distro beer coming into Chicago for Festival of Barrel Aged Beers. Not attending this year, but I’ll reap the benefits of it anyways. This is ridiculous. Dense, creamy, dangerously smooth, and packed with Nelson goodness. Welches white grape juice, white wine, pine forest, tangerine pith, ruby red grapefruit, ripe pineapple, and ripe mango.


Other Half Deep Orbit Cygnus (Snickers and Butterfingers candy). So pastry. Get qualities of both candies coming through. Full of milk chocolate, bakers chocolate, lots of peanut and peanut butter, nougat, carmel, slight roasted malt, molasses, and some alcohol. Thick and chewy. Decadent and delicious.
