I noticed a Philadelphia beer store's instagram account last night they were advertising Surly Furious and Todd the Ax man? Was this just a one time thing ? I havent read anything about Surly distributing to PA yet.

    thanks!

Is this a very new thing?

I did a Find Surly Beer website search and for Mercer County I got: "Sorry, no listings were found based on your criteria!"

Maybe this new distribution is so new the Surly website has not been updated yet?

    Cheers!

Those two beers dropped yesterday morning in the Harrisburg area and is designated by the shop as a one time situation.

Maybe Surly is doing a 'test marketing' thing here?

    Cheers!

I found 4 Surly beers in a NYC shop back in early October – Furious, TtAM, Coffee Bender and One Man Mosh Pit. No idea if this is related to the more recent PA and NJ sightings.

Throughout 2019, Surly has been working with a group called "Brew Pipeline" -- a new company testing out a distribution model that gets breweries into new markets without being forced into a binding distribution agreement.

Basically, it works like this. Brew Pipeline signs the distribution agreements on behalf of breweries. The brewery works with Brew Pipeline to send beer to a specific geography for a set time. The distributors work to pre-sell the brands into accounts, the total volume orders come in, and the brewers produce the beer.

Essentially, it's a great way for brewers to do small drops of beer over a limited time span in new markets, without the expense of supporting a rep in the market, or the burden of locking-in to a distribution agreement (which in some states, can hold-true for forever.)

We had great success in NYC earlier this year, the SEPA market right now, and in Northern California.

I think that Surly is the largest brewer in Brew Pipeline's book for now, and we've been largely happy with the experiment thus far.

This is a long-winded way of saying, this is a small test drop for now, we aren't there for forever, but might come back for another drop or two next year.
