Other Half in Illinois 2019

To be fair, I got in line at 8:50AM and was out of Binnys by 9:15. It was an extremely quick line. I would do it again for one of my favorite breweries doing a random release in my home market.

having now tried almost all from this drop, their triples are fantastic and no one locally nails that combo of flavor/creaminess. DDH Mylar and Mosaic + Motueka are also very good.

Diamond Reflection and Always and Forever are solid but comparable to local haze.

overall, I would gladly pay the upcharge anytime they do a drop.

the sheer amount of the drop was insane though.

if the reverse happened and HB dropped 6-7 cans in brooklyn, I wonder how long they would sit for...

 

To be fair, how many people locally here are consistently doing over 8% IPAs? I passed on a lot of the OH ones because they were closer to 9%...

 

I pretty much exclusively buy IPA's that are over 8%. Once under that number, I prefer the other styles...pilsners, german style beers, lagers, etc.

I will agree with Kid Galaga; that is what made these beers such a treat for me. I honestly did not know how good a triple NE IPA could taste. No one around here makes them like this.

 

At this point, almost no one around here really makes 'em, period. Everybody seems to be hovering around 6-8% for almost all hazies.

 

Champaign Binny's got 3 of the OH beers last weekend. I wondered if they came from Peoria.

How many people pay 23 dollars for a 4pk? The decision to only sell cans at 3 or 4 locations was completely miscalculated. I don’t understand the logic at all.

When a brewery does a drop like this its usually a couple pallets worth of beer and I have to commend Binny's on spreading it out to 3 locations and making it last rather than sending 5 cases of beer A to Grand 4 cases to Naperville, 10 cases to LP, etc, etc. And instead saying you know if we just stack it to the ceiling at 3 locations maybe we can make it last and people don't have to line up hours before the store opens which everyone says "they hate".

So here's what you've all been waiting for. Take a drive out to a location and go pick up some Other Half at your leisure.

 

Was this a one time drop or are they distributing IL or Binnys? Seems like an awful lot out there, but maybe it was just one truck load.

This was a "drop" but there could be more in the future. Also, I don't have any insider info just this is what a bunch of breweries have been doing lately, teaming up with a distro here to do drops. Some breweries make batches specifically to wrap up and send to a market. Others just decide well "x amount of this can go to y market". Sounds like OH did the former.

 

I agree, I will take a drive over a line any day of the week.

 

Yesterday afternoon they had Nelson Daydream, DDH A&F, Diamond reflection, and a couple others that I can't remember. Fairly surprised to see them sitting on shelves still.....the Peoria beer crowd will scoop up any hazy triptych beer in seconds. Unless the OH drop was just that large. I wasn't there a few weeks ago to see what the original drop was.
