Jack's Abby has a line called Kellerbier Series, based on several different Lager styles.

Highly recommended to Kellerbier fans and those looking to try something a little different.

Love this style of lager, and wish some were available in my market. I've had many in Germany, including a few that looked like dunkels or altbiers. This past summer in Munich the kellerbiers I enjoyed from Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, and Giesinger were excellent and great with food.

OP, how about a road trip for this kellerbier?: https://bierkellercolumbia.com/

The german kellerbiers I’ve had also are much less carbonated

IMO they are unfiltered lagers that have some form of natural carbonation through the process of Spunding(look it up). If they are slightly cloudy or have Diacetyl or Acetaldehyde more than likely the spunding has not been done incorrectly or it is too young, or the brewer is trying to inpart those flavors.
Zwickle is also a company that ,not sure if they are still around, but made sample ports/valves for tanks. I could be wrong on spelling.

well...probably the most famous of kellerbiers is known as "u," which stands for "ungespundet" (or un-spunded). see previous post about low carbonation; this is one major result of the beer being unspunded

A German Kellerbier that I used to drink fairly regularly in the past is Mahrs Ungespundet Lager. I have had this beer served on cask (a number of times), via regular draft and bottles. I have not seen this beer in the Philly area in a long time. I suppose it was not selling well?

Another German Kellerbier I had served via cask (several times) is Weissenohe Benediktiner Zwickel.

I have also had a number of other German lagers (not explicitly labeled as being Kellerbier) on cask:

    · Andechser Vollbier Hell

    · Traunstein Dunkel

    · Ayinger Kirtabier

Serving these beers on cask is an enjoyable format for me.

Oh, and at the most recent Yards Real Ale Invitational I had the pleasure of drinking (I got multiple pours) of Mainstay Popular Pils on cask.:+1:

    Cheers!

    Is that Mahrs Brau's?
I occasionally come across some Mahrs Ungespundet Lager bottles, which are great, but pale in comparison to having it on cask. Andechser Vollbier Hell is one of my all time favorite beers.

Scott, I'm curious, would it be fair to say that zoiglbier is a kellerbier? The beers themselves seems to share a number of similarities.

stylistically I'd say...sure? difference is kellerbier is typically sold at a keller and zoigl is typically sold at a zoiglhaus

I just saw on Facebook that Zebulon outside Asheville has a Keller Pils (described as an unfiltered hoppy lager) on tap this weekend.

Another thing to look for that I don't think anyone has mentioned is to look for German beer described as "Naturtrüb" which literally means naturally cloudy but basically means unfiltered.

This summer at the Chinese Tower beergarden in the English Garden in Munich I had a half liter of the Hofbräu Sommerzwickel Naturtrüb (which they translated for the tourists as a "naturally cloudy lager beer).

If you look at the Mahrs website for their U Kellerbier in German it says:

    UNGESPUNDET NATURTRÜB
    Ungespundet, ungefiltert
    [or Un-bunged and unfiltered]

but in English it says "The “U” stands for “Ungespundet”, which means unfiltered," which is wrong so don't fall for that. I know some people have argued that this beer isn't as good as it used to be but I had more than a few in Bamberg this summer and it tasted great to me.

I saw that a local bar had a keg of the Mahrs unfiltered Pils on tap a few weeks ago.

There is a lot of marketing going on but I tend to fall for it and given a choice between a filtered and unfiltered I choose the latter every time.

I agree with this sentence but I suspect it may be because the cask Mahrs "U" beers are fresher as well.

    Cheers!

Traditional franconian Kellerbier is on the maltier side, mostly amber in colour.

Many german Breweries outside franconia brew "Kellerbier/Zwickl" nowadays that are basically unfiltered Helles or Pilsener.

    Kellerpils=unfiltered Pilsener.
