Slightly hazy golden color with a a pearly white, foamy head, this beautiful WCIPA gurgles with dank tropical citrus aromas and another note that is somewhere between peaches and ripe berries. Man, am I intrigued.

There’s an astringency masquerading as bitterness on the taste that is a perfect accompaniment to the berry/peach sweetness and defines this excellent beer as a WCIPA. What a pleasure to drink this beer.

I’m reviewing that and either the Bottle Logic BA Barleywine or one of the massive stouts @larryi86 sent me from 2SP.

Both sound like great options to me! I would recommend have the non barrel aged Russian before the 24 month bourbon barrel version

After an exhausting day at the plant, time for a dessert from @thebeers that will hopefully help me sleep. Or pass the f out. Either way, thanks again Arthur!

Bold, black, and beautiful appearance. Clean looking while still sinister. Deep burnt chestnut highlights hug the glass while a silky smooth espresso looking foam rest above.

Wow. This thing is simply oozing with maple syrup. But, there is a wonderful balance of chocolate and vanilla to support with just hints of wood and sweet booze.

The flavor nearly mirrors the aroma. Sweet booze is actually the first thing I taste, almost rum like actually. Syrup, chocolate, vanilla, and just a hint of char and the slight reminder of cola before the barrel shines in the finish.

Obviously this is insanely sweet, as intended. But it does have that said bit of char to bring it back a touch. Silky smooth rich feel before a barrel stripping dry boozy finish, a decent warmth, and a sappy film that coats the mouth.

As maple stouts seem to become more and more available, The Bruery delivers quite a goody here. A great offering for fans of the style.

    4.24, +0.7%. Cheers!

@Ozzylizard hit me with the food & swag box today and really went all out! Local pickled garlic (!), honey, and maple syrup. Holy smokes this is fun stuff! I'm usually at kind of a loss for non-perishable local foods to send but you really killed it! Not one, but two crazy-nice glasses! I really love the bigger tulips and only have two, so these are perfect! Finally, two cans of Pseudo Sue, which is one of my all-time favorites and still not available anywhere near me. These are getting chilled for consumption in the very near future.

Thanks so much, this is by far the largest quantity/quality of foodstuffs I've received in a BIF before!

Another trip down memory lane. Fullerton downtown style, though I guess they have relocated to Costa Mesa? Anyway, Big thanks to Derek ( @2beerdogs ) for the can. It's been at least 5 years since I've had the pleasure.

Much more red than I remember. A deep amber hue with wonderful clarity. A thin light khaki head lies above leaving behind minimal spots of lacing.

My daughter initial impression and much to my memory, this thing is bursting with sweet smelling pine sap. And oxymoron of sorts, I guess. Anyhoo, digging in a bit more, a bit if burnt rubber, which is something I've always gotten with certain hop varieties. Especially Chinook. A pinch of dried grapefruit rind creeps in as well.

Flavor bursts with damp evergreen and citrus, much to what the aroma would indicate. Touches of caramel. Got a little spicy thing going on too. Very nice.

A little slick, but still smooth and dry enough of a finish to allow for bigger sips. Dangerous, considering the elevated abv. Obviously bitter, but sweet enough to perceive well balanced.

Not exactly what I remember from the Fullerton classic. A fine brew either way, and it hits you right in the kisser, as any proper knuckle sammich should. Cheers.

I've had a bunch of new brews lately (woo hoo!), but only one from @SammyJaxxxx 's incredible box(es). I featured it on WBAYDN?, but didn't have the chance to post my review.

Greg sent me two cans of Carton Basic Coffee, a pumpkin spice latte evolution of Regular Coffee. My gf freely admits to being in the "basic" demographic (there's a second word there I'm omitting out of politeness), so I gave her the first can.

Not being a huge fan of the pumpkin spice craze myself, but also knowing how well Carton makes these beers, I certainly had mixed feelings going into this one. Definitely no need to fear for all of you fans of more straight forward beers; Carton nailed this one.

All of the expected spices are present, but very, very restrained. Coffee is still very much the star here, and the more you drink, the more it comes to the forefront. If you're a PSL-hater, there's no need to be afraid of this one. It's excellent.

    Turning Point Pencilvester

Not to be confused with Pensylvester from Rick & Morty...

Pours cloudy orange with a finger of white head that leaves thick rings of lacing.

Tropical fruit, white wine, strawberry and jungle flowers in the nose.

The oak, tropical fruits and white wine make a crazy-weird mix. Guava, peach, passionfruit and strawberry-banana Starburst impressions. Very mild bitterness mixes with berry and strong wood in the finish.

    Medium bodied with modest carbonation.

This one’s an absolute pleasure to try. The heavy wood plays beautifully with the tropical flavors. Very pencilly. Thanks, @r0rschach. :beers:

Another from @2beerdogs , and glassware from @beerloserLI and NBS BIF #4 in the fall of 2016. Thea BIF’s are the gift that keeps giving.

PS: the beer is whipping my a$$ up, down, and sideways. What a magnificent old school DIPA.

Crystal clear copper color with a light tan head, this old school DIPA features citrus and piney hop aromas, and a significant caramalt aroma. Wow.

The citrus and pine are balanced perfectly on the taste, but it’s the slightly sweet caramalt that is the linchpin in this beer, masking the significant ABV (10%), making this dangerously drinkable.

The mouthfeel is a bit oily, but not cloying, an impressive feat in a big DIPA. I’d drink this until it came out my ears - and then take a nap. Love it.

I know this BIF is still alive and well, with boxes yet to be received, and boxes even yet to be sent (including by *cough* me) - not even taking into account ninja or retaliatory strikes!

I've managed to take my time with Greg's incredible box, and I've got a ton of great beer left, hopefully to share. However, I am working my way slowly but surely, either solo or sharing with the gf. Here's a recap of the latest (I've been slacking!). I apologize if there is any accidental crossover with NBS; I want to make sure I don't miss out on any of the reviews!

Cigar City Tannhauser Gate Weizenbock blended with BBA Weizenbock, enjoyed as part of the Bock tasting thread. 11/30

Really nailed it. Waves and waves of dark fruit, with wonderful bourbon accents (and lightly spicy notes of rye or pumpernickel). Absolutely fantastic beer from El Catador Club.

Speciation Magic Trait golden sour ale aged with blackberries and black currants. Enjoyed on the deck with an Alec Bradley (well after I'd had enough for the review, naturally). 11/29

Very jammy and intensely sour. When you think of fruited American Wild Ales, this is likely what you have in mind. Excellent, excellent beer.

Kane Stacking Casks (part 1 of an intended series), this one being a blend of two different rye barrel aged barleywines and a rye barrel aged wheat wine, with the finished product aged in Pineau des Charentes casks (wow). 11/28

One of the most ambitious and complex concepts, the execution leaves nothing to be desired. This is a rich and sweet beer, but not quite like a dessert beer. Phenomenally rewarding (and perhaps a bit foretelling of today's choice).

Kane Silent Nights imperial stout. Yep, just an imperial stout. Shared with the gf 11/27.

The bottle cap was extremely rusted under the cap. Based on the rust, the oxidation of the brew, and the ABV, I suspect this could be a 2015 bottle - which would be a tremendous, tremendous gift.

This was a really incredible imperial stout. Fresh, I'm sure it's hoppy as hell, bold and aggressive. This bottle is intensely sweet, and oxidized in a not-bad way. There's quite a bit of a port wine aspect to it. Damn good beer.

    And now today's selection:

Kane Object Permanence barleywine aged in bourbon barrels.

Compared to Stacking Casks, this almost seems straightforward, right?

.....wrong. Damn. Let me get straight to the chase: this is one of the best beers I have ever had, period. It just made my top 10 (I intend to hit #2500 tomorrow). A British Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for a full year, and every bit of it shows. Just waves and waves of incredible flavor.

Instead of trying to do it justice on this already-too-long post, I suggest you simply refer to my review.
