Is the Beer Yard Wayne, PA open

I am wondering the same. This was my favorite place to find what I like. Very distressed that we can't find out what's going on.

 

They have a sign on the door that says something like “waiting on paperwork from the state, will return soon.” I just moved to delco and that store is probably the best I’ve found. They were pretty active on Facebook, so I’m hoping we see a post when they reopen.

 

Great spot. Got many hard to find beers there from Matt over the years.

 

Yeah...I'm very disappointed that there hasn't been any real information on what's going on. This is/was my "go to" place for my beer purchases.

 

I stopped by last Tuesday (11/19) and yup the place was closed with that sign on the door.

I wonder what exactly is the situation here?

I am upset only in that they have not communicated to their loyal clientele what is going on.

I generally IM him through FB. Or sometimes I think I've emailed him.

 

Any update on this at all? No FB posts since beginning of October.

 

Tried calling them. Phone has been disconnected. Not a good sign. My instincts tell me in these cases: either health or legal related.

 

Another possibility is business/financial reasons.

I spoke to Matt a few years ago and one of his woes at that time was that his landlord intended to significantly raise his rent but at that time he was able to talk him out of it. Maybe not successful in his lease negotiations in 2019?

Also he related to me during that conversation his business was down because his customers were buying some of their beers directly from the plethora of small, local breweries. Needless to say but over the past 2-3 years even more small, local breweries have opened up.

The beer retail business is very competitive now especially when you consider the number of supermarket related retails businesses as well (which would be Whole Foods, Acme,..) for the Beer Yard.

I just looked up their LID #, their licensed has been moved to Safekeeping. Basically they cannot legally open without PLCB approval. This move to safekeeping usually indicates a sale or closed and trying to sell or transfer or reorganization. I have no knowledge of their situation past or present. Just stating the current legal status of their license to open their doors. Hope it helps.

 

So sad...they had the best selection around.

 

Wow, this is a shame. I know the beer business has gotten more competative, but with the change to the sixpack and singles laws I would think some of the business should be coming back to the distriubtors from the days when people had to go to Wegmans for individual six packs and singles. But to offset that, now every Giant food market has beer.....so maybe business is still way down. I don't know, but either way this is sad.

 

Back open as of about 1/2 hr ago.

 

I heard they sell more beer now that they can sell 6 packs. I'm glad to see them open again but I wonder what's going on

 

Who cares..they're open!

 

Matt is a great retailer. Happy to see this. Looking forward to stopping in.
