I attend a monthly beer share in which we have a captain of negativity. I asked to put the Wisco football game on & he had to chime in. "Why do you care? We live in PA!" "I have my sights set on going to Wisco for a Po.D. at some point." "Why there?" "I have sent three people there & I feel like it's my turn." "Ah, [bump] the Midwest. It's just a buncha flyover states!" 8=O I have read that term, but NEVER heard it uttered! Twelve (12) states enCANpass the Midwest (despite this site's boundaries), ranging from eastern Ahia to western NoDak, & as far S as Misery. OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MN, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO & IA. His dismissiveness aces him outta (in this group) Great Lakes; Founders; Bell's; Revolution; Great Dane; Taxman & SO many others. I just shook my head at the ignorance. It is Zen Buddhism: Those who speak do not know & those who know do not speak. I cherish my 2006 & 2007 visits especially & I hope to return soon. I know that @jkblr is anxiously awaiting my reviews of the CANtents of his latest box. I hope that all yinz have a great Thanksgiving & rest assured that I'm drinking some Midwestern beer, if not today, inna near future!
Sun's above the yardarm somewhere in the empire, mate! Early? I haven't been inna rack yet! USN (Ret.)
This thread may be more entertaining as the day goes along. At least more entertaining for me that watching the Lions embarrass themselves some more.
On the BCBS thought, in South Sarasota area today. Total Wine has shelves of 2017 and 2018 BCBS. And that’s with 2019 release coming tomorrow! They should have shipped it to Michigan months ago as we get almost nothing on release day.
Lulz. People from PA crapping on other people's states. Just tell him he's no longer allowed to drink a beer made in any of those states if he doesn't STFU about it.
Do they have paintings in Pennsylvania? Pennsylvania is just a state that gets in the way when you have to go someplace else. I kid.
It's ironic that this post about the Midwest got moved out of the Midwest forum, especially because the OP made it clear that he understood the (silly and arbitrary) distinction BeerAdvocate makes between "The Midwest" and "The Great Lakes." I'll just state for the record that I do not and will not ever consider Ohio a part of the Midwest. I have nothing against Ohio and certainly don't exclude it out of spite; I just think culturally it's much more like the Mid-Atlantic region (roughly New York through Virginia). I'll throw metro area Detroit, including Ann Arbor, into the same camp, but the rest of Michigan is functionally Midwestern. I'll also point out that Pennsylvania has been Big Ten country since 1993 (a season in which Wisconsin won the Rose Bowl, incidentally), so someone wanting to watch a top Big Ten team play should come as no surprise to anyone in Pennsylvania (even if the dismissor himself were a diehard Pitt or Temple fan).
As someone who lives in Wisconsin now but has lived in Iowa and Ohio (most my life) as well as Virginia I will say that Ohio is much closer to MidWest than mid Atlantic, but could see why Minnesota would not buy into Ohio being mid west
