Other Half (2019)

Curious what impressions are of the recently released Double Sunsets, anyone care to share? I bought the last bottle of the barrel aged milk sugar variant. It wasn't as sweet as I expected. I still didn't care for it. But, I think it was an improvement over some of the other recent BA stouts.

 

I had the maple barrell one at a tasting and the maple was very strong. A few people really liked it; these days I have come to believe I may not like OH stouts even though I keep hoping I do!

 

Looks like Velvet Magnum & the BA version are incoming.

Ice Cream collab with Ample Hills in the works, really liked the Pistachio Stout one they did. Also hoping that SD doesn't sell out before Wednesday since I can't make it there until then.

 

Strawberry Cheesecake Berliner Weisse(8.2%) with Strawberries, Graham Cracker, Vanilla, and Cream Cheese. The classic dessert now in beer form. This time we amped up the cream cheese and strawberry to give it a flavor that Junior's would be proud of. $22 per 4 pack, 1 case per person. ⁠⠀

DDH Forever Simcoe Imperial IPA(8.5%) is hopped with our hand selected Simcoe which has a juicy pineapple kick to it. Then we double dry hop it with Simcoe Cryo. $20 per 4 pack, 1 case per person. ⁠⠀

The Daydreamiest Imperial Oat Cream IPA(10.5%) The Imperial mash up of our 3 favorite Daydream hops, Mosaic, Citra and Galaxy. Add a little sparkle to your holiday season. $22 per 4 pack, 1 case per person. ⁠⠀

Tremendous Cream Imperial Oat Cream IPA (10.0%) our bigger version of Dollar and a Dream with even more hops. Tons of oats, Mosaic, Citra, Idaho 7, Mosaic Cryo and Citra Cryo and a touch of milk sugar. $22 per 4 pack, 1 case per person. ⁠⠀

DDH Citra Daydream Oat Cream IPA(6.0%) with all the oats and Citra and a hint of lactose for smooth mouthfeel. $18 per 4 pack, 1 case per person. ⁠⠀

 

Amped up the Cream Cheese? That’s not a phrase I’d care to see associated with beer.

 

Pretty weak release for those of us not blessed with a palate that can detect hand picked pineapple

 

Speaking of hand picked pineapple, that's exactly what this batch of SD tastes like if you mixed it with a hand picked grapefruit.

Forgetting the name of the bartender, but he's a friendly dude and there a lot. I walked in and mentioned I was trying to decide on one 4 pack or two... he says I hear it's a good batch, and then cracks a can open for me to try. I proceeded to get two 4 packs. I always get a little bent when I hear people complaining about the customer service at OH.

Space Diamonds.. when it's on, it's on.

 

hell yeah, when its on its amazing for sure, def grabbing 2 on Wed if I can. I feel like people who complain about the customer service in the taproom have only visited it on a big release saturday when the bartenders are busy and stressed and dealing with waves of drunk people since 10am. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the staff at the taproom old and new. patrons, whole other story though.

Forever Simcoe is lowkey one of their best beers though, I'll take it 4th behind SD/ACE/HS.

It's a great crew doing a very difficult and often thankless job really well under tough circumstances. I know that I couldn't deal with that shit week after week. Just being a guest in the taproom when it's super busy is draining enough; I can't even imagine what it's like to wait on that largely inconsiderate horde for an entire shift, let alone as a regular gig.

But go when the crowds are manageable, and the staff actually has a chance to breathe, and you'll find nothing but good and generous people with interesting life stories. As always, a little perspective and empathy—walking a mile in someone else's shoes—helps.

Space Diamonds is on point, fuck it I bought a space case... I'll be drinking this batch come Xmas, this is the stuff wise men will follow for 12 days.

 

I'm praying to Shaun Hill's beard that SD lasts until Thursday.

I have to say that recently I was feeling a little disloyal towards ACE and was moving a little towards SD. But having had both the recent HDHC ACE and this batch of SD, I’m firmly back in team Citra. SD is excellent but that ACE batch was god tier.

I also had Vapor on tap last night. Less upset that I missed out. Wasn’t as good as a I remembered. Also had All Death - blergh
