I'm an American who's been living in Singapore for more than 16 years. When I first came here, there were literally only two places with craft beer (Brewerkz and Archipelago). Over the years the scene here has really grown with tons of new bars serving craft beer and even some new breweries. Retail: Thirsty (thirsty.com.sg). This was one of the first places to sell retail craft beer. They had a better selection than anyone else because they were somehow importing beers without any local distribution. I think they played a big part in growing the scene here. Amazon Prime Now and Lazada (Redmart). These two online behemoths have a pretty decent selection of craft beer now! Supermarkets: Cold Storage and FairPrice both have craft beer now, but the selection can vary a lot by branch. It tends to lean more towards Australian and New Zealand brands. Beer bars (I'm not going to try and cover all of them, rather the ones I frequent and support). They all have good food too! American Taproom (261 Waterloo St, #01-23 Waterloo Centre, Singapore 180261) - 30 beers on tap Brewerkz (several locations) - Microbrewery Burger Bar New York (115, #01-03 Amoy St, Singapore 069935) - Big selection of beers, but very expensive. The burgers are excellent though, and not as expensive as the beer. Good Beer Company (2 Science Park Dr, #01-23 Ascent, Singapore, Singapore 118222) - Several on tap plus lots of cans/bottles. Good pizza too! Good Luck Beerhouse (9 Haji Ln, Singapore 189202) - Tiny place on a trendy little street full of clothing boutiques. Good selection of local craft beer. Heart of Darkness (55 Tras St, Singapore 078994) - Vietnamese craft beer. Good but expensive. JiBiru (313 Orchard Road 313@Somerset, #01 - 26, Singapore 238895) - Japanese craft beer and tempura. Little Creatures Brewing (36 Club St, Singapore 069469) - The beer from Fremantle Australia. Little Island Brewing Company (6 Changi Village Rd, #01-01/02, Singapore 509907) - Microbrewery with great barbecue, and beer prices are charged per 100ml. Malthouse (685 E Coast Rd, Singapore 459054) - Usually about 15 beers on tap with cans/bottles too. $10 pizza on Tuesday nights. TAP Craft Beer Bar (1 Raffles Link, #01-02, Singapore 039393) - Reasonably priced pints and at least 10 taps (maybe more now). The Armoury (36, #01- 01 Beach Rd, Singapore 189766) - Haven't been there in a while, but I remember they had American craft such as Deschutes and really good burgers. As I mentioned, these are the ones I can personally vouch for. There's at least another dozen I've never been to, in addition to some that I have been to but don't recommend. Any questions, feel free to post up!
After several days and visita to many places here: Best beer bar: In bad co craft beer bar. Stellar bottle list that is well curated for different styles with many SE Asian/Asia Pacific beers and a number of other world beers as well. Robin seems super knowledgeable and awesome as well. Best world beer: The great beer experiment had a great Belgian selection and a few solid ipas as well. Really tiny spot though. Nothing else wowed me. Skip brewerkz, it's...not good. Apparently a lot of Singapore beer isn't brewed here right now which makes some sense. Brewlander was the best 'singapore' beer I had and rye and pint was decent as well.
Agree about Brewerkz. I suspect they've gone through some management changes and maybe brewmaster as well. Their main outlet in Clarke Quay has shrunk by more than half of its previous size. They used to have a double IPA (they called it XIPA) that was decent and some pretty nice single-hop ales. Their food used to be simple American-style food and a pretty big menu. Now they've reduced the menu size and eliminated some of my favorite dishes, replacing them with trendier stuff that's not very good. Their nachos are outstanding though! In Bad Co has a nice selection. I'll have to try it! Thanks for the info.
I did want to say thank you for this thread. There isn't a ton of good info about craft beer in Singapore and it was really useful. Glad I could give you a good recommendation in return. In bad co is a bit hidden off the road but we'll well worth it.
It looks like no one has posted here for a year but I’ll throw it out there. My dad lives in Singapore, and offered to send me beer. Any recommendations on local Singaporean or regional brews available now? He’s not in to beer at all so not looking for a taproom or bottles that would be available to me in the US.
