unless someone asked or bought one we’re in the dark - no bottle prices on their menu

Honestly it would have to be a pretty ludicrous price for me to not buy a pour of St Lam. It’s an absolutely incredible beer.

They said they aren’t selling bottles yet. The fridge hasn’t been installed or something. I agree with the bar area feeling claustrophobic. The tables are much more comfortable. Too bad they didn’t use the same barstools as Churchkey, the padded swivel ones. I did like the place overall and the draft list was still ridiculous yesterday. I really liked the Jarl cask. What is a sparkler though?

yeah Jarl was awesome. A sparkler goes on the nozzle and sort of pushes the beer through a few small holes. Causes a lot of angst

My rule of thumb is, if I really have wanted to try it, the price shouldn't matter that much. Obviously some ludicrous price not withstanding usually it's worth it.

went a second time this past weekend- boy oh boy is the service at the tables bad. About 30 minutes from the time I entered to the time I was served a drink. List has been good so far but the servers all seem confused all the time.

I celebrated a birthday at an NRG location Saturday. Hope you all in NYC get to enjoy the fun.

PS - The service was slow at the location I went to when they first opened too. Pretty sure it has been resolved. I wouldn't worry about the tap lines either, they'll get it going.

I went on the day it opened and then again last night. The service has drastically improved, the food options from outside vendors was good and quick and the tap line issue has been resolved.

Yea I stopped by on Saturday mostly just looking to pick up cans, and I was preparing myself to shove past the line and ask the bartender if I can just grab stuff to-go, but was pleasantly surprised by basically 0 line and even some free seats inside. Definitely far more pleasant than opening weekend.

I went the Monday mid-day after it opened and had a wonderful time-- understood that it was not busy at all (I was the only person at the bar) but highlights were:
Great list of beers, pricing very good for a bar. Tasters and full pours available for most beers. Great attitude among the servers-- passionate beer people who were very inclusive and naturally enthusiastic. Without trashing other bars by name, this isn't always the case in the best beer bars. They take the beer very seriously, one guy in a Cantillon shirt was passionately cleaning tap lines and was saying they would do this every time they changed kegs. The food court has great choices and overall this has the potential to be one of the very best beer bars in manhattan if not beyond.
I think every brewery/bar/restaurant has some growing pains (every brewery opening seems to have issues with POS!), and maybe by opening with such an epic list they compounded some growing pains, but for now I'm grateful we have this new to the scene.

Are there good beer bars that don't clean lines? Isn't that a prerequisite to being a good beer bar?

I heard rumblings about a Monkish tap takeover next Monday. Seems very possible since some of their stuff has been popping up recently.
