Crazy that KBBS alone can’t even land a BBT. I’ve seen several trade with pluses. Is BBT really that good, or just scarce? And is it more scarce than KBBS?
I think quality and bottle count are roughly the same. They're probably the two best "available" stouts in the world (by which I mean they're not one-time releases or only available to members of a 100 person club or something). But I wonder if the size of the bottle plays a factor? BBT is over twice as much beer. For me at least that makes a difference - when you're talking about a bottle that acclaimed, rare, and expensive, I would feel like an ass if I solo'd it on a Tuesday night. For those kind of bottles I'm waiting for an occasion to share it with a few friends, and that's easier to do with a BBT than a KBBS
If the size of the bottle plays a factor (it doesn’t) then price should play a factor too. Big difference between $100 and $50. There’s no reason you should need a plus on KBBS to get a BBT.
i think the size of the bottle definitely matters. i see all the time on here where people are wanting to be able to share a rare(er) beer with others (as they should) and you simply cannot do that with KBBS. i won’t get into the price / rip-off factor but the fact that KBBS comes in a 12oz bottle is definitely a negative and now that it is becoming less and less rare it’s affecting its trade value. whoopty doo. it never should have been as high as it was in the first place. it’s good beer. but 12oz bottles of stout are for KBS, Avery and Prairie. it’s a negative to a lot of people plain and simple.
I’ll definitely agree with you here. I don’t really have a dog here as I was fortunate enough to get a bottle of each this year but I believe the price of KBBS should offset the larger size of BBT. At the end of the day I believe these beers should be 1:1 with one another. If you’re a ticker, bottle size won’t matter to you or your trading/tasting group.
