Greetings all. Glad to hear that third time was indeed the charm for our host!

I've got a beer from one my favorite local breweries today: Idle Hands. It's a Dunkel clocking in at 5.5% ABV called Brunhilda (with an umlaut over the 'u').

Look: first appears as black in the glass, but a closer look shows that it allows a little bit of light through and has the color of dark amber maple syrup. Tan head thins to a ring which sticks around.

Nose: huge nose of dark chocolate and roasty, toasty malt. Some cola as well. I'm pretty sure I've had beers with added chocolate that smelled less chocolatey than this.

Taste: follows the nose but with the roasty notes taking precedence over the chocolate. Still some cola. A touch of hop bitterness on the back end. Everything seems to complement everything else.

Feel: the flavors may have some overlap with a porter but the feel is very much that of a crisp, thinner bodied, lager. Thinner, but still rich. Moderate carbonation that fits perfectly and finishes fairly clean. I could drink a number of these in a row.

Overall: this is fantastic! I like Von Trapp's dunkel quite a bit but this has more flavor and a richer mouthfeel. I don't know whether it is more, or less, authentic than VT but whatever it is I likes it. It's both loaded with flavor and very drinkable. I can't help but think this would work great on cask as well.

My dog kept wandering into the picture so I'm going to give him the spotlight he was clearly angling for. Despite his blank stare of a hound face, I assure you he is a very happy boy!

    Cheers all!

Nearly opaque black body; decent light tan and frothy head. Big aroma comprised of chili pepper, cinnamon, and cocoa. Milk chocolate taste sets in immediately with the chili pepper building up slowly and boldly; cinnamon spice sits in the background and nicely complements the malt sweetness and chili burn. Heavy body; slick and smooth; starts out feeling sweet with the residual sugars while the chili peppers steadily take over with some fine, biting heat.

I didn't get much coffee in the smell or taste, but in many ways, I don't see it as being needed for this chili stout. The beer is rich and satisfying, presenting a lot of depth with all of its ingredients. Again, personally, I got very little coffee, but still find this beer to be awesome all the same.

This beer was a fine recommendation from Mason at Coaltrain Fine Wine and Spirits. He never stirs me wrong, so a toast to him!

If you poke around a bit on a neighborhood app like Nextdoor you can probably find someone who would be happy to let you walk their dog for them. I did that for a while after my last dog died and I wanted some dog time but wasn't ready to get another one yet. It was an excellent stop gap and actually sped up the timeline for my getting another dog.

Welp, ended up trading in the commuter bike for a new model. While waiting for it to be adorned with the finishing touches, I decided to stop in next door for a pint or twenty. Went with an unusual to me selection, but these local guys produce some quality German style biers so I figured what the hell...

    Rosenstadt-
    Weissbier

Not what we've all been accustomed to for our "classic" weissbier. It actually looks much more like a pale ale or amber with a copper hue and a light off white head. The spotty lacing is unpretentious but good looking.

The aroma clearly has that German banana and clovey aroma, but it's mild and well integrated with a toasty bread and dash of caramel.

The flavor follows. It is dominated by the banana/ bubblegum we've all grown to love or hate, but again, it's backed by a much more toasty approach than commonly found to style. It's very nice actually.

It's about as full feeling as should be, slick even. But even that is balanced well by a good balancing crisp carbonation. Sweet, but not too sweet, though "bitterness" is not detectable.

In still not a fan of Hefe's or Weissbiers in general for the most part. But this has something going for it. Might even away me a bit to take a chance at the style once in a while. Rosenstadt continues to impress with the classics as well as the modern twists like this one.

After my official review, I gave Weissbier a rating of 4.14 with an rDev of 5.1%. Prost!

Back with another NB. The name says it all Coolship Lager. An open fermented lager from OEC Brewing. I have heard good things about this brewery, but I have kind of avoided them because their main thing is sours and that's not my thing.

Poured cold from a 16oz undated can to a Pils glass.
A- slightly hazy amber body, medium fading head minimal visible carbonation within.
S- Best thing about this beer- bready, yeasty, musty hay.
T-Rather clean lager, pleasant bready finish.
    F- Medium thin- appropriate.
    Overall pretty good.

Went to BWW to watch the Packers, one of three games we don't get on TV this year. Their tap selection is decent size, but not a lot of true craft. This one was decent though.

    Happy New Quad Sunday!

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slope, around 47, cloudy. Having a pretty tasty brew, been almost 14 years since I've had a Three Philosophers (Mar 2006, 2004 Edition), still a pretty tasty brew. Making some beer/brats, been probably over a year since I've made this. Watching some The Invaders. Might be back with another new brew.

As long as ....@"He" is free by gardening/cooking season , I'll go along & keep it secret.

In-laws? OK - a (late:confused:/ex) father-in-law story , that I witnessed. He stopped for gas, before visiting us. (I happened to walk down the road to get something.Forgot why.) Some 20-something pulled in as he (Reggie) was getting out to pump his gas. Had the stereo (with speakers in his trunk:rolling_eyes::grin:) turned up to "11" . (You all MUST hear what I like!!!) . Left it on , even after shutting off the engine. Reg walked up to his car, & tapped on the window.
Reggie : "Will that be cash or check?"
    Loud Dude : Perplexed look/shrug
Reggie : "Sorry. I sometimes forget to speak up. Cash or check?"
    Loud Dude : "For what?"
Reggie : [Pointing to hearing aid] " This. Ya blew it out. *shrug* Sh*t happens. New one costs $600. Cash or check?"
Loud Dude *turning off car stereo* "Really?"
    Reggie : "No":smile::smile::smile:
    Loud Dude :"Sorry"

    :grin::grin::grin:

Reggie was a character, & always entertaining.

Today's new beer is Genesee Brew House's Scotch Ale. Short version : glad I got the whole pack, & not just a single. :+1:
Slightly reddish hazy amber, with moderate light tan head & lacing.
Smells like caramel (Caramel 40 is one of the malts listed on the can.) , toffee, & a moss-covered log in spring.
Taste is similar to aroma, but less sweet. Some (moist)dried fruit - raisin, fig, prune, cherry (as in brandy-soaked cherries), slight spice & wood/char. Light, but noticeable bitterness that balances the sweet malt.
Feel is light-medium, with very fine , drying carbonation.
Overall, I like it. Not at the top of the list, but a pleasant experience, that I wouldn't hesitate to revisit.

Tangerine hued body; thick and sculpted white head; splotchy bits of foam and rings along the glass. Nice tangerine and peach aroma; mildly sweet. The taste is primarily sweet breads and powdered sugar mixed with a touch of mild grapefruit; decent hop bitterness. Medium body; crisp and acidic; finishes dry.

The bottom of the can displays "REVENGE 10/25/19". For a double IPA, this is fine but not great. It lacks a memorable defining character and comes across more like a generic slightly hazy IPA pretty much indistinguishable from so many others out there.
    --------
Eh, another cloudy DIPA. I need to start buying and stocking up on some old reliable standbys for true beer satisfaction. There are some great hazies/cloudies/NEIPAs out there, but unlike other styles such as lagers and porters, I seem to be getting some heavy-duty palate fatigue from these newer IPAs...

Pours a very hazy orange-ish color with a minimal off-white head. The nose is an extravaganza of tropical citrus aromas, with juicy oranges most prominent, but there’s also a spicy passion fruit component, and some mango. Wow.

The juicy oranges really dominate the taste, but the passion fruit is also a contender, and there’s a subtle malt note, too, and the slightest bit of booze.

This is the kind of beer Bare Hands crushes. If you come across it, it’s worthy of your consideration.

Also thanks to @WesMantooth , who sent me a couple of those so I could share the love! Such a lucky man, too, for having such a cool brewery within striking distance.

I was really hoping you'd enjoy that, and am happy to see that you did. I was hoping to get it to you last month, but it seems that the extra time didn't take too much of a toll. Imo, the DMS was a bit higher on this batch than the previous one he sent, but I still love the hell out of it anyway :sunglasses:.

Greetings from Nashville! I'm enjoying today's new beer courtesy of @Snrubnivek, and this one's a winner in my book:

I did not know what to expect from a barrel-aged wild ale that sat on roasted coffee beans post-blending, but it worked brilliantly in this case.

Beautiful looking beer with a slightly hazy golden color and a thick, frothy and long-lasting white head. The aroma was complex and fruity with oranges, lemons, and even guava. There was a mild coffee presence with some chocolate and berry notes. Some funk and hay were also in the mix. The taste was about as expected. This was moderately tart on the palate with bright fruity notes. I picked up subtle coffee flavors on the finish, and there was a nice earthiness throughout that wasn't in the aroma. Dry and clean on the finish. Overall, a fun and well-made beer. Thanks, Kevin!

    Good Evening NBS.
Dropping a quick one while watching some football. Great night at the restaurant last night. I had the opportunity to host and cater a party for the world renowned Martial arts/Brazillian JJ artist Renzo Gracie.
The whole group was just an awesome bunch. Good time was had by all- including me.
New beer and Brewery today - from Indiana! (I lived in Indianapolis and Muncie- Ball State for a short time. East coaster through and through. I digress)
18th Street Brewery Pins and Needles
    DDH Double IPA.
Pours a burnt hazy orange with a really nice creamy off white head that stands for quite a bit. Still leaves a cap after minutes and lots of sticky creamy lacing. Nice.
Aroma is lots of fresh squeezed OJ, grapefruit, sprucy pine. Secondary notes of pineapple, dankness and stone fruits.
Taste follows with citrus juice and pith, snappy tropical fruits(really) damp pine and peach/apricot and cannabis.
Theres a nice bit of slightly caramelized malts that add a nice base.
Feel is medium bodied, but its carried with a prickly, crispy carb that lasts throughout. It finishes dry with pleasant bitterness. Not sure what the abv is but its not discernible.
An awesome discovery. This beer is really tasty and well made. Loving the high drinkability and clean slightly malty but incredibly hoppy taste here.
Southern Cali IPA feel. Midwest IPA. True Story. Great beer.
