As I move through my cellar, I am now on a case of Expedition numbered 9359. It appears Bell no longer allows you to search by that number. Does anyone know the bottling date?

Don't feel bad man, my team's RB has the most fumbles in the NFL this year.

I liked it very much. The alcohol heat it has when young was gone but it otherwise still tasted much like it does as a young beer. It was warm and inviting. Roasted malt and dark chocolate with a bit of creme du lait. I think it could go another 10 years to be honest.

I've got a more if anyone is going to be in Northern Virginia anytime soon and wants to share one. I'm also thinking of doing a tasting of historical Bass ales, with maybe a Ballantine Burton Ale? Hit me up if you are interested.

I don’t have a bottle on hand or I’d know for sure, but doesn’t the package state you can age an Expedition more or less forever? I remember reading folks rave about it at the decade mark and beyond, even. I think it’s medaled as an aged imperial stout at some prestigious festival or another, for whatever that’s worth. Sounds delicious, and certainly worth the trip.

Yeah I was surprised that my BA expedition had the same "shelf life unlimited" on the label. Unfortunately I also wasn't surprised when the 4 pack I got lasted all of about 2 weeks in my house.

This seems like a good thread for another question regarding a Bells stout. The Cherry Stout I just grabbed from a grocer has a born on date of 11/13/15. Do I bring it to their attention they are selling 4 year old vintage (no - it was not in an “aged” section) or just try to enjoy?

I would bring it to their attention, in my experience that beer does not have an unlimited shelf life

I had a five year old Cherry Stout and enjoyed the hell out of it. Enough so that I purchased a sixer for the sole purpose of aging.

It's gonna be a long four more years.

maybe I haven't waited long enough, the one I drank semi recently that was about a year old had fallen to pieces. I have one left that I was going to open for science here soonish now that it's past the 18 month mark but maybe I'll push it to 2 or 3 years and see if it pulls it together

Bell's has recently been selling some 3-4 year old stouts, Old Ales, etc in the General Store, and I believe Cherry Stout was one of them, so maybe some also made it into distro. I don't consider this stout to be a best candidate for aging, but it will be good.

I need to add, I looked at the bottle I have that I felt feel apart within a year and it is actually the 30th anniversary Cherry stout, which had additional whole cherries added to it I believe. Not the regular Cherry stout so I must revise my previous comment

The label says: Shelf Life - Unlimited

I'd reach out to them. I have one bottle left and their Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cherry Stout too.

Hmm I'll have to look closer at that. Not that that particular beer matters much as it doesn't seem they plan to brew it again. I will be in kzoo over the holidays though so I'll probably drop them a line and see if I can't guilt them into some of that sweet sweet bells merch
