To your point @HouseofWortship, I'd absolutely be interested to see what they come up with if they did a pastry stout for a one-off. They've been known to do that with beers in the past to gauge peoples' thoughts and feedback.

I imagine it would be good and well thought out, like seemingly everything they do.

So if anyone going to point out the incredible irony that this is not an example of blending but rather an example of adding adjuncts?

I'm going to print these last 3 pages out and frame them. This has been a nearly perfect BeerAdvocate thread. It hits all the marks.

It's decent, but has a little too much talk about how the actual beer is for my pallet.

Once I achieved Fight Club status I sold my strollers for maxx profitz. Secondary market on B.O.B. strollers is sick.

I appreciate your sentiment that if you're not failing sometimes you're not really trying. But I can't abide this idea that a ba pastry stout is some sort of pinnacle of beer craftsmanship. Surely they can be finely crafted but they seem to more often be gimmicky shortcuts for brewers who can't evoke flavors like chocolate, coffee, and vanilla from beer and barrels.
That said, I just came here to see what rev beers were getting love since I'll be in the neighborhood for the holidays, so I'll let your all get back to your regularly scheduled programming

It isn't a pinnacle of beer craftsmanship, but it is a style and it can be barrel aged. If you can do everything else barrel aged at an A+ level, but fall short in ba pastry stouts(because you don't do them), would you say they are well rounded? No one is debating that Rev puts out amazing, high quality stouts, I just want to see them say- okay, we know how to get the nuances out of the barrels, let's just go attempt something we might get heavily panned for doing, but if it succeeds we'll be the talk of the beer world and if it fails, everyone will try it and give us kudos for the attempt. Kind of like what GI did back in the early 90s when they put beer into bourbon barrels.

Well agree to disagree I suppose. I think the best barrel program in the world could be one that never produced a pastry stout. And I hope I can get my hands on some of the ba stuff from rev cause the shit sounds dank

We disagree. I’m guessing you know that.

But let it be known that from this day forward this man will be known as HouseofPastry.

PS your logic appears broken. Just because the result is perfect does not mean there wasn’t a challenge. Sometimes people aim for something, and then achieve it.

Just popped in to say this batch of Ryeway is amazing (full disclosure, I have not really enjoyed the previous 2 years for some reason). Going to be grabbing another 4pack when I can.

Carry on with the argument on pastry stouts or whatever was going on...

The irony being I don't really go for pastry stouts. I just want to see how a great barrel aging program with a ton of talent would fare making one. I suspect it would be spectacular.

Were the Deep Woods releases in such short supply that we have to condemn opinions lest a couple of barrels get allocated to another project?
