Ok we have 11.5 days to post 10 pages (dhaakon check the math). So let’s be aggressive but not overly so. If things keep up at the current pace people may need to take a step back to spend time with family over the holidays (while also staying on call)

Re: some of the recent commentary. Again it’s hard to tell people what is not beer (even though I personally totally side with you all). Paint stripper hop bombs were not beer to English IPA fans. NEIPAs weren’t beer to the WCIPA boiz. Now hazeboiz (I will label myself as such for the purpose of this debate) are saying cereal crunchee beers are not beer. Believe it or not, in the not too distant future people will be reminiscing about the “old school / proper” pastry sours/stouts. I dread to think about what their point of reference will be for making that statement.

I think the easiest and only way to say something is not beer is if it has flavor additions. The problem with that is that if excludes plenty of very delicious beers that for my personal set of tastes, I consider to be “real beer”

    the struggle is real. #189

Broad strokes. Is dry hopping considered a flavor addition?

Recent collab with Oxbow is a good example of “real beer”

Freestyle #46 is an IPA brewed with English pale malt, wheat, and oats, and dry-hopped with Citra, Simcoe, and Amarillo. Brewed in collaboration with @OtherHalfNYC of Brooklyn, New York. Inspired by the East coast India Pale Ales of the early American craft beer movement, this beer incorporates UK malts and grains with modern American hopping techniques with some of our favorite varietals, including whole-leaf Centennial. Bright straw in color with notes of passionfruit, pineapple, candied lemon peel, and pine with a light body and semi-sweet finish.

I would personally say no. The opposite can very easily be argued though. And just to be clear again - I don't think that the logic of flavor additions = not beer is remotely correct. It's just the closest thing to a definition I can think of in terms of defining beer vs not beer. When you get into the territory of "this beer with nilla, coffee and cherry juice is beer and that one with the cinnamon, coffee and strawberry juice isn't" it becomes totally impossible

I’m not saying these beers aren’t beers. I’m saying they taste less like beer to me. I’ve had plenty of imperial stouts with coffee or cinnamon or coconut in them that were great. But to me they tasted like a beer with an addition. A lot of the pastry stouts taste like eating liquid fudge cake. Which is fine if that’s what someone likes (and standing around in taprooms eavesdropping, people like exactly that aspect).
For the IPAs, it’s just a preference. I like haze, but got tired of creamsicle.

I read the Three Chiefs thread as well and they were shouting out us complaining about pricing for the on site bottles as well.

I don't know about you guys but every other thread on BA is boring. I've tried and they're just boring and not worth anyone's time to leave here to read. And if regular posters on the other threads care to convince me otherwise, they'll have to come here to do it because this is the only thread I'll read #189herewecome

Yeah hazepecker every so often points out threads to read and I just can't make it past a page or two. Except for the "diversity isn't a real issue" or "women don't deserve beer" threads, mainly so I can block asshats and cockgoblins.

The BCBS page on the Great Lakes Forum is a good one, especially with the drama between the Chicago Tribute writer and Goose Island this year.

There's a finite amount of ass-hattery and cockgobbling that I can read in the current threads I follow. It would be totally disheartening to confront the reality that they exist everywhere if I read some of the suggested threads....I can only imagine the depths of contempt I would feel if I veered too far south or into the midwest.

Or mine! I have a giant sweet tooth and their beers hit it for me.

Admittedly, and this is something I've said before, I would rather spring $10 on a pint of ample hills ice cream than drink a stout.
