If it’s off by over 5%? Yes. State laws vary on this (I think). My friend said in NY it’s .5%.

Just for the record, I never understood the benefit of an 8% fruited beer. From More’s heyday in Chicagland, people will pay $20 for 4 packs at 4% if it tastes great.

Actually, they have responded, at least on FB:

“We have been made aware of the alleged discrepancy in the ABV listed on a recent product. We are dedicated to getting to the bottom of this issue and appreciate your continued support. We will be immediately submitting samples of a range of our products to independent laboratories that utilize specific testing procedures to verify the accuracy, validity, and reliability of the alcohol levels in our products. We are constantly updating our processes as we strive to bring the most exciting products to our consumers. We maintain, to the best of our knowledge, and within the abilities of our instrumentation, our ABV calculations have always been as accurate as possible. - 450 North Brewing Co”

Posting that response solely in a private FB group fan page (and deleting all public mentions of it) is certainly... a choice, lol.

Ah, it's likely the instrumentation. Someone just give it a good hard smack on the side to recalibrate it. That'll do the trick.

I haven't been back since. A couple 450 fangirls I'm friends with stopped going after the Halloween release because they felt they were being defrauded. Glad people have caught on.

So this post from you was from Nov. 24.

I'm assuming the screenshot noted above is recent - like this week? - which would make your hypothesis above a month old give or take. What started tipping you/others off to all this?

A buddy kind of raised the question back in July/August asking if I was even catching a buzz off these. I told him no but I attributed it to being an alcoholic. Back in Sept/Oct, we were drinking and he had me breathe into a breathalyzer and the Slushy's weren't moving the needle.

On top of that, my brother isn't much of a drinker at all and said he wasn't feeling any of the XL's (8%) or XXL's (10%). He drinks for the taste and couldn't care less about achieving a buzz. But for $20-$22 per 4 pack, you better be getting what's advertised.

They've clearly been misleading people. They can point to instrumentation or whatever excuses they want to pull out of their ass. It paid for a huge expansion and lined their pockets with god knows how much money. I'm just glad it wasn't too much of mine (only went to 2 releases and spent maybe $150-$200). And as I said earlier in this thread, I'm more of a Zwanzigz guy anyways.

I’m not sure this is willfully misleading the consumer. Based on the overall environment surrounding this operation, I doubt they realized that taking a base beer they brewed to 8% and then diluting it to oblivion reduced the abv.

Not sure which would be worse...purposely misleading your customers, or being so inept that that you have no idea how ABV works.

And anyone who waited in the cold overnight for fruit juice...my thoughts go out to you.

Maybe thoughts and prayers can raise the abv like Jesus turning water into wine.

No kidding, can’t believe people would regularly line up for these over priced, over hyped, fruit trub cans. Did they ever correct the exploding can issue?

The exploding is the nature of the beer. They didn't like accidentally put tiny bombs in the cans.

The ONLY reason people line up in a crazy way like they did at 450N is because of trading/selling.

Yes, people will line up to take beer home, but not to the extent people did at 450N. Same as TG releases (I pick an extreme for a reason): people don’t set up ice shanty tents and line up 30 hours in advance to have that beer for themselves. Even if they would be willing to, what forces them to is many other people that are ALSO willing to do the same to trade/sell.

I am a trader. Always have been. But sometimes what people do to trade is downright crazy.

Yesterday I had a guy on Instagram tell me that the slushy beers are “a luxury most can’t acquire”, like they’re some sort of precious metal. He was going on about “actual proof”. So I checked his posts and they’re a lot of slushy photos. So maybe he doesn’t have the most unbiased opinion. I can’t take anyone’s opinion seriously when they just call everyone else “haters”.

oh he finished his post by saying “doesn’t change the fact that 450 north is one of the best breweries IN THE WORLD” (emphasis mine).
