Sorry I’m dense. That’s an 8% ABV 450 North beer that got tested as actually being 2.5%? If so that’s mental. And do those other numbers give any indication as to actual calorie numbers or that was a side comment? Me no science good.

One of the comments mentions that anything else in the solution (suspension?) will throw the IR reading off. I think it's safe to assume there is other shit in there.

My calorie comment was just off-hand. Yeah, they tested a "beer" that was advertised as 8% and it came up 2.5%. I have super limited knowledge of brewing, but the comments seem to indicate that the base beer is 8%, but after they throw in all sorts of shit (fruit puree, sugar, etc), the end result is 2.5%.

I think it's interesting, if brewers are willing to straight up lie about ABV, the one thing they have to disclose, the possibilities are endless of what's going into these beers. Seeing how sweet these things are, I wouldn't be surprised if the sugar/calorie count is 2-5x that of soda, which is crazy to think about.

Ugh, I have happily had my head buried in the sand when it comes to the sugar content in these beers. I mainly drink water during the day, no coffee, no soda unless I'm eating out somewhere, gave up vitamin water years ago. If my fears are confirmed however, they will have to pry the Hop Showers out of my cold, lifeless hands.

Isn't it just actually illegal to mislabel the alcohol content though? Surprised the TTB or whatever hasn't stepped in on this.

I think a lot of people are in a similar boat, at a super advantage to brewers. Let's say it came out that a can of the next Crunchee was 700 calories, and had 75 grams of sugar. Would people still drink it? I think a decent amount of OH's fan base wouldn't bat an eye, but I also think a massive group of people would take major pause.

I also don't drink any sugar drinks, mostly because they're too sweet for me and I feel the benefits (taste) of drinking them are far outweighed by the health detriments. I feel that way about a lot of these sugar beers too, but of course there's no actual stats to back it up.

Hmm, hate to be a denier, but anecdotally, I definitely had multiple 8% 450 North slushies that *seemed* like they got me just as buzzed as an ACE. Perhaps I'm playing tricks on myself. Perhaps if I slap "2.6%" stickers on all of my beers, I'll no longer have sluggish day 2s?

Also, unrelated, but I Easter egged myself last Christmas at my parents' house in the Midwest with a Double Sunset Brazilian. If anyone has any of these left, they're drinking spectacularly rn. Going to assume these are actually about 5% and not 13%.

Hop Showers announced for sale today. Riwaka and Strata variant. Presumably these are the dregs that didn’t sell in MD

Ha, what a trick OH has played on us all! Intensely in your face hops for so long and now these incredibly smooth hoppy beers.

Had a bunch of different red wines tonight at a party, none nearly as distinctive as the thirty variations of citrus/stone/tropical fruit flavors we all know and enjoyed in our hoppy beers this year. Lesson learned #byob #dreamsof189

New profile pic of a young Noam Chomsky drinking an extremely hazy NE IPA during his famous 1971 beer debate with the French philosopher Michel Foucault in which they debated the nature of beer and beer culture, e.g. if pastry stouts and adjunct heavy sours could be defined as beer, if #linelyfe is a life worth living, and if the labor theory of value could justify a $26 four pack of beer.
