Brief sightings across the board, but worthy of a more dedicated thread = Current batch of Sovereign is crisp and sharp with a cracker-y herbal spice, and hop bite of admiration

    ---

2019 Long Shadow is sensibly designed: Advocates a delicacy without too much banter at any given stage:

An earthy bitterness with vanilla truffle ignition. The chocolate roasted malt, burnt caramel, cacao powered almonds, and shadowy bourbon work the aroma. A subject that’s invoking per (more) vanilla-oaked raisin implications, seared wood, dried figs, and cherry-date oat bars with nutty, cinnamon toffee explorations into the molasses drenched, pruned meat

Barrel becomes more responsive upon settling with vinous, dark fruitcake awareness, as does the smoked grain, Turkish coffee, charred leather, and maple grown licorice to palate. Accordingly, a fairly light, middling carbonation: Impressive feel that’s not striving for a cloyingly thick mush or saccharine derived appeal, but a balance of sticky, viscous convolutions…Bottles and barrel variation might be in the works

I’ve come to be all in on Silvaticus. I have family in Amesbury, so it’s a really good excuse to head up and meet up for a couple beers.

Their smoked beers have been fantastic, in my opinion. There was a tripel that I really enjoyed and I got to try a BA something or other with brett.

While I’m not totally out on crowlers, I would love to have more packaged options for those days when I don’t have the time, energy, or money to hang out for a couple pours. 500 mL, something like that.

Love love love their lagers as I’ve been staring here for a while. Flagship Sovereign has always been fantastic, unaware if any recent changes.

Rotating hoppy lager is always terrific & educates me on the highlighted hops.

Not a huge obscure Belgian-style fan but the consensus is that they’re good.

    Awesome brewery.

I am, and they are good!

What a really love about their beers is that they are very well made, and pay homage to style and tradition. Very refreshing in a sea of breweries throwing together cloyingly sweet, marshmallow, milkshake, pastry, whatever the fuck beers lately.

It's my favorite place to grab a beer in MA. Drove up from Boston yesterday to get Long Shadow on draft (crowlers sold out on Saturday). Ended up chatting with one of the brewers, who was pleasant to talk to and sitting at the bar drinking Y Knot (their light lager). I believe the wives of the two brewers run the bar. And the place was packed but relaxed, mix of beer geeks, families, couples on dates, etc. Just a great vibe and space. And the beers are good to exceptional across the board. And if you have friends that are hazy-only drinkers, you can do a round or two at Silvaticus and then head to Barewolf or one of the bars/restaurants in town. Love everything about it.

    Sssshhhhhhhh don't tell everyone!!

I am lucky enough to be withing walking distance of Silvaticus. Phenomenal across the board. Sovereign is just perfect. Oblivion black lager on nitro is delicious. Brevity their kettle sour is great, the hoppy lagers are so clean and crisp its unbelievable. Theyve had two rauch beers in the last year. Baron Von Smoke which is their regular is delicious. They had another one that I can't recall the name, but it was much more peaty. Lovely. And not a NEIPA in sight.

Its a great place to hang out. The owners and staff are fantastic people. Its just a top quality brewery, churning out top quality beers. I'd love to see them canning, but the operation is so small, with so little room to grow, I don;t know how they'd manage it.

And I’m happy to chime in with my desire they add some sort of packaging options (to bring a 750 “boat” beer home would be dope). However, it does kind of make Silvaticus exist outside the plane of what’s happening everywhere else.

This place is truly one of the areas best kept secrets. Definitely the best option in the Merrimack Valley. Again, happy this is 15 minutes away from me.

They have their other Pils on tap at the moment,Quintessential. German. Hallertau, mittelfrau, tettnang. Just phenomenal.

and Baron Von Smoke is amazing this time around. I could just sit and smell a pint of that all afternoon

Relishing the last rauch fill of 2019 over its burnt embers, and charred malt forces. The hickory smoked brisket, rich gouda, and roasted caramelized nuts are gripping with scorched earth mannerisms

Can't remember the last time I gave a shit about a 9% Belgian strong ale. And now here I am contemplating taking Friday off to go try this.

You need to get up to Silvaticus. Great lagers & well-executed Belgian styles. Worth the short trip. BM me, I’m there once per week.

Will do! It’s on my short list of breweries to go to. It’s closeish to my parents so I can just head up from there. Notch’s Pitch Lined Pils will jump ahead of it for now though...

Thank you for this recommendation. I was on a lager kick and hit up Notch and Silvaticus after. This place is excellent. I am in love with the dark lager.

How’d the two compare side by side? (Well, sort of side by side)

I'd been to Notch before, but it was my first trip to Silvaticus.

I love the variety at Notch, and The Standard remains my favorite American made pilsner (actually it might be my favorite pils period).

But I was extremely impressed by Silvaticus. The service was incredible and all the beers I had were great. Unfortunately I didn't get to try the Golden Ale as I had to drive home but I assume it is excellent.

I'm not sure if they do cans or just crowlers but I'd happily buy the dark lager and Pilsner on the reg if they were available in cans.

How come Suarez Family isn't mentioned more often when comparing breweries of this nature? They brew all the traditional styles well. Is it simply a matter of geography?

They are, but this is the New England forum and their thread is in the Mid-Atlantic.

I figured but when @ScaryEd says Notch makes favorite American pilsner, it has me wondering.
