The GABF is a great preview into what trends will dominate next year. Will it be craft lagers, which made up 18.6 percent of the beers at GABF? Or could it be IPAs that give you cavities, or maybe even a non-alcoholic craft beers?

My vote goes to an increase in Hazy/Juicy/Milkshake IPAs , or as I like to call them "entry level IPAs." This easy-drinking category seems like the best defense from the onslaught of hard seltzers hitting the market.

I'm hoping to see a return of really clean really well made lagers... New Oberfalz Helles comes to mind...I'd like to see more of those...

Here's another vote hoping for the "lager renaissance". Enough with the fucking IPAs already. You've got to make something really exceptional to stand out in that overly-crowded marketplace anymore. Also, I laughed at "long live seltzer". I hope it's not that one.

I voted "More Fresh Hop..." because that's what I'd like. Would like to see more well made lagers.

Not sure how much further hazy/juicy can go although of the choices, I think that trend will continue. We're at the point now where all but a very few taste pretty much the same.

“Extreme” will continue to be a big part of the conversation. Double digit ABV stouts that are double barrel aged will have a “stupid” amount of vanilla added. IPAs will have an “obscene” amount of hops added for triple dry hopping. “Healthy lifestyle” beers/seltzers will have less ABV, carbs, calories, gluten, and color. Craft lagers will gain more traction once they undergo a quadruple decoction mash thus giving the drinkers something to brag about.

I'm telling you it's the Lager Renaissance! Once you begin to see hash tags on Instagram like #Crispyboi you know it's a wrap!

This is an absolute fact. This year, tons of places will be advertising their new slow pour pils. That rocky, meringue head is just Instagram-worthy enough to help drive the trend.

A trend I see continuing to grow (not dominate but grow) is the desire for breweries to produce low calorie beer that taste good. From where I'm standing, Founders has a strangehold on this niche with All Day IPA. Maybe I'm a bit of a homer on that thinking but I couldn't name another widely known craft beer that beer drinkers go to if they want a low calorie great tasting beer.

Bell's is coming out with Light Hearted in 2020. They have also bottled some session IPAs and sold them in the General Store only. I have had some of these bottles and they were all winners for the style. It's clear that Bell's wants a piece of this action.

I'm getting older and I can't keep drinking 300 calorie per bottle stouts like I use to without picking up additional weight. I don't think I'm the only one in that boat.

Low ABV great tasting IPA will get a bigger piece of the market this year.

Lowe calorie and taste great will also get bigger.

Sours become more main steam, that kettle sour junk that has nothing else going on. Mainstream is starting to like the “tart” in beer.

I’m good with the above and would also like to see some more really tasty lower ABV lagers.

Wish Barleywine would get more love, great tasting lower ABV stouts would be great too

    Enjoy

I think lagers, because markets in all industries have a way of self correcting or having it forced upon them by consumers when things become unbalanced. There has been way to much emphasis on IPA’s, so an adjustment is in order. I also think it would be good for the industry in the long run, as it’s much easier to get a newbie to try and accept a lager than some hop bomb IPA. I wouldn’t win many converts to craft if I started my macro drinking buddies with the 90 IBU IPA’s in my beer fridge.

i'll take any trend that stops people from dumping lactose and vanilla into their ipas. if that means natty seltzers are all we drink so be it.
