Boulder Beer Company turned 40 this year but where's their hoopla?

Sleeping Giant has been contracted for all of Boulder’s future hoopla production.

When we first heard about this I was more on the side that agreed with the decision to do this style of beer.

But now I’m more in line with you. Would have been cool to see something different.

A 40 Anniversary mix pack of old favorites would have been cool. Glissade, Vienna, Stout, Porter, Tumbler, maybe bottling the draft version of Pale Ale if possible (the 5% one). Something along those lines.

All that being said, I’m totally in for picking this one up. Although I can’t imagine anything tasting better than this year’s Celebration.

It’s fantastic...but I would have believed I was drinking a fresh SNPA if you told me so.

Just hit shelves on my side of Missouri today. Only seen 12 packs, but considering they're still the 'December special' at a local store, I couldn't say no.

Let us know what you think once you actually taste this beer.

It would be ideal if somebody served this beer to you absolutely blind.

    Cheers!

I feel like this lands somewhere between Celebration and SNPA

I bought this beer on faith alone. I was excited to learn of this being available and have bought two 12-packs. On its own, this beer is head and shoulders above the great mass of pale ales. It is a fine and well integrated beer and deeply satisfying. But that's just me.

@SierraTerence -- why does the SN web site beer finder have the 40th listed as "out of season?"

It’s interesting that they don’t state “IPA” on the front label. That might have been a conscious throwback to their earlier years. I’m at the point where I consider Sierra Nevada to be masters at the American IPA. Doesn’t remind me of Celebration at all. Personally, I REALLY like the simplicity of a six-pack IPA for an anniversary release. Craft beer could use a lot more simplicity like this. This is a drinking beer, not some wax-dipped cellar filler.

Chris, I suspect you are correct here. Sorta like the 'old school' Celebration labels which did not have the magical three letters of IPA on it:

That hourglass isn't next to the 40th. Northern Hemisphere has one though.

On the website they list it as a spring seasonal. If it is as good as some have indicated maybe we should start campaigning to make it year round then each year they could just change the number:slight_smile:
