Now that everyone has access to extended beer and place stats, what's your Average Beer Rating and are your surprised by it?

Mine currently sits at 3.76. Pretty much where I thought it would be.

Find yours by heading to your beer ratings.

    Cheers!

3.87. Not surprising to me either.

3.96. A little higher than I'd prefer, but not entirely a surprise.

I probably rated a little too high when I was newer to craft beer. On the flip side, I tend to simply not drink (or review) beer I don't think I will enjoy, which similarly skews more recent ratings high, as well.

Mine is 4.65, HOWEVER I typically only rate those in BAs top 100, as it’s a bucket list to have them all. Currently I think I’ve rated around 38. (Maybe 1 or 2 more for some locals that I think are exceptional) I certainly try prob close to 100 diff beers or more a year, but typically don’t rate them all. Maybe I should be, but I usually only take the time to rate those in top 100. Just an interesting FYI as to maybe why some peoples averages are much higher than others?

4.07 I may be too generous when reviewing...

3.72, sounds about right. My bell curve is really steep between 3.5 and 4.

Makes sense as I try not to spend money on beer that looks/sounds terrible.

I find I'm pretty much only drinking beers I know I like now, or those that are new to me and harder to obtain, which all tend to rate closer to 4 or higher more often than not.

But early on, there were a lot of clunkers I put myself through. I wanted to get a good gauge of not just how much I enjoyed every style, but also get a good range of the good and not so good, of everything.

    NO REGERTS!

Anyway, love the continuing evolution of our ratings and stats here! Keep it up!

On untapped i'm a 4.11 (can I say that?) -- On BA 4.17. As others have said - I'm mostly only drinking beers I expect to like based on style /brewery etc. While I like the depth of reviews on BA - I find posting reviews and pics on the other site to be more user friendly.

By the way, the sort-by-style capability is something I've always wanted within my reviews. Thumbs up to that "new" feature. :+1:

3.9 for me, also a little higher than I prefer. I remember way back when I was over 4.0. I also rated much more generously when I first signed up.

Not that it isn't appreciated, but what was the motivation behind making these features available to everyone (along with previously "society only" forums)?

    3.81 by the way

4 on the nose. I’m actually not too surprised as I tend to self select beers I’m more likely to enjoy.

4.02. A little higher than I expected. Not really a ticker but I do try to rate every beer. With certain styles (IPAs and Stouts) I will only buy if it from a brewery that I know and like, has been recommended by someone I trust, or is something that I actively search out.

I'm the guy who is like, "oh man, this is terrible, you gotta try it."

Let's go to the Strange Brew festival and see which is worse, the fish or kimchi beer. . .

3.88 for me, but looking further shows that 44% of my >4 ratings are Belgian styles and 24% are German styles, while 89% of <3.5 are poorly done versions of those styles

I don't think individual people's average beer rating makes much sense to report, because it would be wildly skewed by what beers those folks have had. What would be more interesting is how each person's average compares to everyone's average on those beers.

For example, my average rating is 4.2 (yikes!), but just of my past 10 rated beers, 6 of my ratings were below the rAvg. A couple of weeks ago I rated 10 beers in a row below the rAvg. So it would be nice if BA would report the overall rAvg of the beers each person has rated.
