Anyone used these? Got some for Christmas this year and so far, it really makes the beers I’ve tried with them, creamier, juicer, and actually just better, as in draft-like! Here’s what the website states...

“It's hard to top beer on tap. It comes out all bubbly, with rich frothy foam capping off the last inch or so of hoppy goodness. Replicate that draft beer experience at home, no keg required, with these soapstone nucleators. Nucleation (a fun science word!) is what happens when you pour a carbonated beverage and those little gas bubbles start doing their happy dance. Place one of these stones in a pint glass and bubbles will gather around it as you fill the glass from your can or bottle. The active carbonation not only helps you get a thick, lacy head that will last until you finish your drink, it also enhances the beer's flavor and aroma while reducing acidity. Keep them stowed in the freezer (in the included reusable cloth pouch) for an added bonus: a colder brewski with each fizz-ilicious sip. Made in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”

I’ve not seen it, but sounds like a similar idea to the glasses that have etchings on the bottom to provide more nucleation sites.

    Try them and report back!

You could do a side by side, with pictures. Pour one beer normal, one beer with the stone.

Trojan...I’ve done both and IMHO these stones beat the etched glasses! Haven’t done the pictural evidence test yet, but have taste-tested each b4 using and the beverage poured using the stones has been “creamier”...the product does have a by-line starting you might not “enjoy” what it “does” to your favorite beverage...I have yet to find one that it did not “improve”...again, IMHO....

Folks have been dropping a few grains of salt in their glass to provide nucleation for a very long time. Use and older, scratched up glass, and the same thing happens.

Dude...nowhere near the same! These are soapstone, so no worries with scratching as far as I’ve seen. I am NOT advertising these products, just curious if anyone else as tried them...in case someone was wondering.

Fine for some styles, but I gravitate towards dark beers such as stouts, porters, quads, and strong ales which often taste their best near room temperature. I don't think these stones are for me. Suppose they'd be OK for IPAs and sours.

Anyone worried about forgetting about it, or losing it in a murky beer and choking on it?

And, any symbolism about getting two stones in a bag?

bbtkd...I’ve only tried them w/ IPA’s, hazy and traditional, so your reply is interesting...makes me want to try one of the KBS’s I’ve cellared to see the difference!

I suppose you could let the beer warm before opening it, then pour it and add the stones. I doubt the stones would warm it appreciably. That may work. I normally let my beers warm in the glass, but no reason I can't let them warm in the bottle.

Well, of all the random, useless beer accessories I've seen over the years, these are surely the most random, and have to be in contention for the most useless.

What about the Beer Caramelizer, metal rods you heat up then drop in your beer to caramelize it?

So, if you use the stones and the hot rod together, would the beer be the nectar of the gods?

Wouldn’t that be awesome...esp. for some of the caramelized, lactose heavy porter/stouts out there?!!!! Desert in a glass!!!

well, the page for the stones recommended keeping them frozen, so maybe it would be the shattered glass of the gods?

Yes I can see where these would work way better than a nucleated glass, as you have more/larger nucleations. My guess is you keep them frozen because improper cleaning might make them a candidate for mold/algae. As a gift this sounds great, but not sure I would spend the $30 on it.

"Handmade in Minnesota" --- and they use a bottle of Brooklyn beer in the video?

I imagine you don't have to keep them in the freezer.

@woodychandler will want a can version, but may insist that making it taste lie a keg is a step down

I understand it, and its kind of a good idea for some beers. However, I think a master brewer (let's say Shawn Hill) would be insulted if you "enhanced" his beer with these.
