I think you have 3 days once it's in your box to have it removed, but you'll have to contact them to do it. You can't easily do it through the app. After 3 days you can still have it removed but they keep 50% of the purchase price as a "restocking fee."
Not sure where in PA you are, but i'm in southwestern PA. I forget the name of the courier service, but they were based out of Harrisburg and not a large national chain that I recognized like a DHL. Once they had the box in their possession I was contact via email to set up a window for the delivery time/day. They gave me the choice of 3 consecutive days with 2 windows each day(they only deliver M-F though). I think it took about 10 days total for me to get the box, but it would have been faster had the weekends not aligned the way that they did.
Not sure if it varies by region but my courier in Pittsburgh was Quick Courier. I was given four options for delivery days and 3 windows to choose from for each day. Delivery actually arrived several days before the scheduled delivery that I received from Tavour. *Edit: Looks like @Pinz412 beat me to it
closed my first crate last Monday ended up being more costly than I had realized (despite seeing all the prices of beers I added to my crate and knowing the shipping cost) while having $35 credit it was still $51 for 12 beers, only three of which were 16 oz with the rest being 12 oz
The prices are slightly higher than the shelf, but the shipping is really cheap. Ordering online usually runs $30-$35, so you make up the difference at just $15 shipping. NYC uses CDL Last Mile for delivery. I usually get my delivery in about 10 days.
One of the main reasons I stopped using them a couple of years ago. The list is long and most of the beers or good to great, but it's hard paying $8-10 for a can of haze when there is so much good distribution and local breweries around. I can look back at my first few orders and most haze was around $5-6 a can.
I loaded the app based on seeing this thread about a month ago. Lots of beer to pick from. A few were gone in seconds. I get alerts in my phone, clicked the alert as it arrived and the beer was gone. I don’t search around for beer so I can only guess the beers I don’t know are not available around here. I can’t imagine spending $8-10 a can or a few $20+ 375 sizes bottles. If I had more time to have the case shipped I would try to buy and look to load 10-12 larger size bottles up in the $10-12 range but I don’t know if that’s even possible. Add the almost 10% tax and I guess my local tax and that’s 17% more on top of shipping and beer. Till then I enjoy looking at each beer they post out to me. Enjoy
I agree that it can definitely get pricey, especially for the hazy ipa's. That said, I've definitely seen a few on there for $10-$12 for 2x 16oz. cans. Some of the beers also offer discounts when you buy more than one. A few weeks ago they had a Prairie stout on there that was priced the same as it is on my local shelves. The biggest draws for me on Tavour are the bottled stouts and wild ales. They get some really great stuff that I'd never be able to sniff around here. For my next crate I plan on buying those pretty much exclusively and delaying shipping for as long as possible to get the most out of the shipping cost (which I find really reasonable). At that point I'd be happy to add on a hazy or two if they looked interesting in the last week before my crate hits the mail. That way I know it'll get to me as fresh as possible.
Just received my first shipment & am pretty pleased. I limited my purchases to big barrel aged beers that are tough to get & not available anywhere in my vicinity. The shipping made me nervous - the estimated arrival date was two weeks later than initially stated - but it finally arrived. Not sure I'm wild about that in the middle of a Minnesota winter, but happy to have these bottles!
I don’t have a direct membership, but my brother in law does and often I’ll add to his orders. As others have said it’s good for some things and less so for others. I usually jump on the “sought-after-but-not-quite-whalez-that-are-not-distributed-to-NYC”, or “whalez of yesteryear” BA stouts. Eg the most recent was Fremont BBA Dark Star - Coffee.
I love Tavour. I've had numerous shipping issues (always the courier's fault) and they've credited me the shipping every time and once credited me the price of the whole crate as it got to me two weeks late. Their customer service is very good, which is integral for a business like this. As far as pricing, the IPAs for a single can are definitely above NY prices ($7 avg for a DIPA) but anything they offer that I can get in NY (Prairie bottles, Bruery bottles, Anchorage bottles) has always been priced the exact same as in-store. And $15 flat for shipping is honestly a really good deal, as anyone who has shipped beer cross-country in a trade will attest to. I've also been pretty blown away by what they're able to offer. Stuff like Anchorage Deal With a Devil, 3F Hommage or A&G, Fremont Dark Star variants, stuff from Bottle Logic, etc. Was able to scoop a couple IPAs from Moonraker which I'm very excited for. Stuff from Grand Teton and Zipline that I love and could never find otherwise. My only gripe is that you can bet your ass the day or two after your crate closes to ship you're gonna see some absolute dynamite IPAs that you can't buy because it's gonna be a few months before you fill your next crate enough to ship.
When I try to change my settings to get notifications it doesn’t work Didn’t bother looking into getting it fixed cause it seemed like stuff didn’t sell out that quick I’ve never noticed anything get sold out within a day
I've also had that issue with notifications not working, it appears to be a recent problem as previously they worked. I really like Tavour overall. Like another poster, I too tend to focus on wild ales and barrel aged stouts so I can keep a crate open for a month or longer. Although last delivery was a bunch of great IPAs from Weldwerks and Topping Goliath and I bumped up the ship date. I've also had some very mediocre brews and an expensive stout with full-on soy sauce flavor. Overall it's worthwhile, but my purchases from Tavour are going to slow down considerably this year, and that's mainly due to availability of lots of great brews where I live. Still plan to use them for offerings from specific breweries.
Since you're in WA, you can pick up at their facility in Seattle. It's just down the street from Mariners Stadium.
I was with them for a while, but then I realized that it was just CANtributing to my backlog & stopped. The other problem that I had with them, locally, was their choice of CANtracted shipper. They were worse than the cable company in terms of their delivery hours & their flexibility mirrored that of an I-beam. This was problematic since my day job prohibited my using it as a shipping address & each time that I had a delivery coming, special arrangements had to be made. When I CANplained to Tavour, their response was that such was their local (to me) shipper & that their hands were CANtractually tied. That was when I broke ties with Tavour. No regrets on my end.
I'm in the Philadelphia area. They are reliable with shipping..takes about a week from ordering. They offer many impossible-to-find beers but you generally pay a fairly steep price. Worthwhile if you are looking for those difficult-to-find beers.
If you're a cider drinker there is currently a bundle for sale on there for $18. 6 cans of 3 different varieties from different producers. $3/beer is probably the best price I've seen for anything on there so far. That leads into a question I've wondered about for awhile though. Someone locally once told me that not all Tavour members see the same inventory at the same time. They said the more you spend with them, the more access you get to more limited/exclusive options. Does anyone here have any idea if that's true? Or does region have more to do with what inventory you're seeing than anything else? No one has ever given me a definitive answer to this with any evidence. I do know that the first time that Endless Ending hit Tavour, I didn't have the option to buy until what seemed like a week or so after a few other folks in my area. Anyone have any input into this?
