Yes I found it for $40 at a store which I believe is right around MSRP. Yeah the bourbon hunt is tough. I’m lucky and have found a spot where I can get a lot of good bourbon at good prices, but I definitely put in some effort there and also have some great buddies who give me tips on when stuff drops. And even so I don’t have a prayer at getting the super sought after stuff like Pappy ha. But yeah I think finding local buddies is key, or alternately good trade buddies that will hook you up.

That's a heck of a deal you found. Keep me in mind if you find another. I got multiple everything anything and nothing at all from jackios, tons of ba prairie stuff and much more.

Cantillion is a tough thing and best going the international route if all fails. As I recollect st gilloise doesn't fall in mid to upper echelon of cantillion. Lower than LPG and prob st lamvinus. Again it's getting harder and harder to trade for cantillion and I'm kind of shocked when I see bottles like Brabantaie trade so high when the ratings don't support high trade value, must just be scarcity.

I sent an ETL out + a bottle of garagiste mead for Forager Pastry Lace if that helps

Keep an eye on your local bourbon facebook groups so you know when it gets to your area. I got mine because I saw other total wines in florida got some. If I didn't know to ask specifically for it I would have never gotten it because my total wine didn't put it behind the counter or on the shelf

I'm in southern Indiana and don't know of a Facebook page as of yet that would help in that area but I'll look again. I've called multiple stores in IN,IL, and KY and any store that gets it says they get 4 bottles or so a year.

Forgive me if this isn't the place to ask, but since there's been a lot of bourbon talk in the last couple posts it seems relevant. Which bourbons are in demand in the trade scene when it comes to beer. I'm a relative novice when it comes to bourbon, but I am curious as I'm a fan. The names I always see tossed around in regards to beer trades are Elmer T Lee, Stagg, Weller, and Michters. Are there any distilleries that hold high trade value that aren't as rare as PVW? The PA state store system is awful, and I always hear rumors about "bourbon guys" having inside info on release dates and locations. At the same time, I'm always interested in a good hunt for some delicious bourbon.

The vast majority of TO was sold onsite at Anchorage on small business Saturday 2018 to coincide with a small Christmas Market of local artisans. It was $75 / max of 2. It lasted the entire day and after the first hour it was no secret. It was released unannounced to give locals the best shot at getting that beer. Definitely an improvement over the junk show that was adwtd day 2017 where there were out of state profiteers and hired craigslist mules. So the only FU for TO was to the shitlords. I believe it was only 10 cases sent to Oz.

should be another much larger ADWTD (whiskey) release this winter.

Bourbon hunting is tough. I initially thought it wouldn’t be too hard, but over the last year the best I’ve got was one bottle of blantons, and EH Taylor small batch, and an Elmer T Lee. ETL was the only one I was able to trade for “rare beer”, the other I just drank.

those are the big ones, Willet is really sought after as well. I’d say Michters/Weller aren’t as hard to find as PVW, but their lower tier stuff doesn’t trade. Michters you need toasted barrel or 10+ year, weller antique has a bit of value but the significant ones are CYPB/FP/12

the most valuable are always going to be the BTAC (GTS/WLW/ER17/Saz18/THH) and PVW stuff with some exceptions

Do you guys ever just buy bourbon? I have pretty much access to all the above and can just get most of them from local vendors like bev-mo or total wine. I've actually traded a few bottles of bourgon for beer by simply going out and buying the bottle requested for trade, which is easier then trading rare beer for rare beer.

The issue with that is....many can't just go out and buy pappy or Stagg or the like - just like that - many areas get little to 0

not at retail... and at that point if you’re buying marked up bourbon to trade for beer then you’re just buying beer at secondary essentially

This will come off like a troll but it’s not intended to be

I’d love to see a picture of pappy sitting each month of the year at one establishment

What kind of markup are you seeing? I'm pretty sure areas of LA particularly Northridge have a lot of hidden bourbon gems.

anyone who has been to DC has most likely seen all the BTAC and Pappys sitting in the window of 1 DuPont Liquors - heck, you can even order them online (for crazy secondary of course).

This exactly, I was trying to trade for Xul a few times and I got crickets a few times and another time I offered a couple of bottles but I then realized it was cheaper just to buy Xul secondary then to trade my bottles.
