Sixpoint Brewing has three new Hazy beers as year-round beers for 2020:

"If you’ve been following our innovation program you know we’ve released over 60 new beers in the last couple years. Well, now’s the time. The moment we’ve all been waiting for. We’ve taken the very best formulas—the favorites of our crew, and the ones we’ve gotten the most love for, and we’re taking these to the next level. Introducing TRAIL HAZE, HOOTIE, and MELTDOWN… in 6packs, through our whole network, all year long."

I am personally getting a bit tired of the Haze but apparently Sixpoint thinks we need three more brands of Haze from them.

    Cheers!

I've enjoyed hazies from them in the past, but in this moment I can't muster much excitement for this announcement.

No different than the bitter bomb IPA/let's make every style hoppy trend when that first became popular. At least from a business perspective the hazy trend is a little more approachable for most people.

So they have a hazy session, an IPA and an IIPA. Makes sense I guess BUT I wonder how this will do with and then against all of their hazy seasonals.

I had some fresh Hootie, canned 12/31/19 and was not impressed at all. I don't know if it it's the whole "low IBU" thing they're going for (it's 5 IBUs) but it just felt kinda "empty" for an IPA. I remember it having a fuller body overall, either they tweaked the recipe or my memory is off.

I also got some fresh Party Hat (canned 12/30/19) and, while it's a nice beer, it also is kind of "hollow" for a 7% IPA. I guess I'm just not a big fan of 0 IBU IPAs.

Regardless of all that, I just wish I could just find some Alpenflo around here in South Jersey.

Count me in as feeling the same way, give me a nice bitter IPA any day of the week.

Ya know, I forget what happened after Sixpoint was purchased by "ABV" as far as distribution goes. Southern Tier moved from Regal Wine to the so-called "New Jersey Beverage Alliance" (which is mostly AB houses, except for one indie, Nash, in the region where AB owns the distributor) that already distributed Victory's beers. But Sixpoint was a Hunterdon-distributed brand, IIRC - was ABV going to move Sixpoint to NJBA?

    Unfortunately, looks like Hunterdon's off-line.

I don't know, most of the brands I once purchased distributed by AB houses (Victory, Ramstein, Firestone-Walker and Ithaca in particular) have pretty lousy presence on most store shelves, both as far as freshness and variety go.

I don't think that's a fair statement for several reasons, but above all you have no idea what he is consuming. Secondly, the US beer market is embarrassing right now due to its infantile obsession with "haze". The beer aisles are a fucking joke and in no way resemble the beer market just 5-7 years, when even then, amidst a general IPA boom, beer drinkers had great variety and prices were not driven by an aesthetic or some false notion that local tastes better.

"Sixpoint Brewing thinks it needs more Money."

Like many huge trends in various areas of culture, "haze" has been migrating from the underground (the local upstarts) to the mainstream of craft beer, and it's gradually losing its cool factor in the process. This is taking it to where it always has belonged: Easy, accessible beer for casual craft beer drinkers -- training wheels beer -- and not the ultimate beer for the most committed connoisseurs, as it once widely was confused to be. It's in the process of fulfilling its destiny. Hopefully, as the shelves fill up with "Hazy IPAs" from nationally and regionally distributed brands, the little locals on the leading edge largely can move on to something better and less beaten into the ground (and, ideally, much broader).

No, I am getting tired of well made Hazy beers. I have lots of high quality options available to drink: both locally brewed (e.g., Tired Hands) but also at my beer stores (e.g., Bissell Brothers, etc.). I am at the point where they are all starting to pretty much taste the same to me.

Needless to say I have not tasted these new beers from Sixpoint. If I ever see them on tap I will buy one pint. I have not totally sworn off drinking Hazy beers but the majority of my purchasing of IPAs has been for 'regular' IPAs (e.g., I have purchased three 6-packs of Victory Hop Wallop over the past month and I think one more 6-pack purchase may be happening).

    Cheers!

Keith, have you tried the reformulated 2020 Victory Hop Wallop yet?

    Cheers!

A pretty simple answer is don't buy them, stick with what you like and look for new offerings in your flavor of choice. It's their business model and are responsible for choices made, sales will reflect said decisions.

Yes, just like with the classic IPA trend, the Lager trend, etc. The fun part is finding the ones that really click with you within any style.

I just don't see this. There is so...much...beer to choose from nowadays and even my local grocery store, that clearly has no idea what it is doing (but it is getting better) offers a lot of really good choices and overall, for a decent price.

Yes, more variety, more to choose from is always good. Whether local, domestic or international.

I think we’re in a great era for beers if anything. SixPoint do what they want of course and maybe they’re just “surfing the wave”. That of Hazy beers...

And as long as the craft beer consumers keep buying these beers that is what they should do from a business perspective.

And now White Claw has been given substantial space in the craft cooler at my local grocery store. Fruit flavored alcohol water and fruit flavored nicotine. Yep, give 'em what they want. Give me a hopped up barleywine and a hand rolled Cuban.

Sir the whole point of owning a business is to make money. Retailers will sell hundreds of cases of white claw before selling one case of barleywine. It's a sign of the times
