but I don’t like when it’s bubblegum. The one I’m drinking now is a bit of that, don’t care for it, I could easily drain pour this. It’s about the only Hefe I care for, so a bit disappointed. Code 7269.

It is an excellent Hefe; however, I am not sure about that code. I hope it doesn't mean the 269th day of 2017. It has been a while since I drank Weisenstephaner Hefeweizen, but I don't recall much bubblegum flavor. Now, I recall quite a lot of bubblegum with Paulaner's hefe.

I’d agree, I’ve never had bubblegum with this one before either. I’ve had that with what I’d call poor US efforts on Hefes.

Weihenstephaner uses a DWWY code. So that beer was brewed on a day that ends in the number 7 in the 26th week of 2019. In this case June 17, 2019, which puts the beer at 7 months old. A little past its prime, which could be contributing to the off-flavors you're picking up.

On the other hand, bubblegum is a common characteristic of a hefeweizen and wouldn't be considered an off-flavor. I can't recall noticing it in Weihenstephaner's though.

I feel like every Weihenstephaner Hefe I've ever had has some bubblegum and some clove... Not a style I like so I can't really appreciate the beer, but I do have respect for the brewery.

I’ve got the bubblegum in US versions, I’ve never ever had Weistephaner turn to bubblegum. It’s not disgusting just distracting. I still poured out a bit, I wasn’t enjoying it so I’m not obliged to finish it.

First one I’ve had I’ve not liked, it’s just off to my palate.

Maybe your palate is off from something you ate earlier? Just spitballing here but it's hard to believe something so well made would be that far off.

Seriously though, I've only ever had good Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier once, and that was on tap and apparently fresh, or at least as fresh as you can get a keg in the US. Around here bottles of it sit until someone buys it without checking dates. I suspect it gets delivered expired after sitting in a warehouse.

used to be very hesitant to say this, but the more experience I have with tasting beer during varying times of the day/with a varying palate, the more I'm convinced that many of the "changes" in flavor I pick up aren't due to the beer or any inconsistencies there, but due to something I ate and/or my own body/palate chemistry. it's a huge factor in my experience

Maybe, don’t know, but the bubblegum is really a distinctive flavor. I don’t buy it often, and I’ve never got the bubblegum, but it was a faint hit too, but enough for me not to finish. I’ve had Hefes made here and the beer tasted like it was brewed with Bazooka Joe, so the Weihenstephaner wasn’t nearly as overt.

My first experience with this was going from a homebrewed ipa that was all citra hops to a bottle of myrcenary from Odell. After the dank mango cattiness of my homebrew the less over the top fruitiness in the Odell beer was completely subdued, it tasted like tomatoe vines smell if that makes sense. It's an extreme example, however the change in flavors was crazy and opened my eyes to palate fatigue and the possibility that something else I ate earlier in the day may have very well altered my palate.

Give it a day or two and have another bottle if you have one. If the beer presents itself the same way as the last one you know it's the beer. Another thing is our tastes change. I used to eat a specific salsa until one day I started to notice a specific spice in it that was off putting. The spice was always there, but subtle enough that I didnt notice its inclusion until much later. Once I tasted the offending flavor it was over, I couldn't NOT taste it every time I went back to that salsa. It happens

I’ll buy another bottle for next weekend, my local store used to sell Weihenstephaner Origional and Hefe, but it’s been gone for two years here.

That beer was also my first of the day, I’m not all that skilled when it comes to imported German beers, unfortunately due to age it’s a very rare buy for me.

I love that flavor, personally. But to each their own.

After first I was going to give you "probably just in South Dakota!" (I have some family there )

Then I realized that's exactly what YOU were saying. Haha. Out of code imports are a problem everywhere, but I'd like to hope in most cases it's simply the archaic coding and stores not ordering appropriately and/or rotation issues- not the goods coming out of the wholesaler already out of code. If that was the case, your more scrupulous retailers would be sending it back at the time of delivery, before paying for it, which leads me to belive it's the former not the latter.
