It's Pliny, not Pliney.

    The misspelling comes from the mispronunciation. Gaius Plinius Secundus is the Latin name for Pliny the Elder. The Latin pronunciation is Pliny (as in tin-ee) not Pliney (as in tiny). RR Brewery has chosen to mispronounce it.

    Fun speculation, I bet it makes for some lively discussions, like all points trying to be made without evidence by people confused by what the word evidence means.
