Your use of the descriptor "hot" is precisely what my stout tasting group uses (or rather used to use) Nice to see we were not alone in looking for an good way to describe the (to our palates: overly hoppy presence present in "fresh" BA stouts. It used to perplex me how an ale could age in a bourbon barrel for over 6 months and not loose some of that 'heat' until it occurred to me that some people *Like* that heat, and it seems some guide states that it *should* be there for "proper" taste. So the beer wonks tend to make it that way. Obviously there are exceptions, and for us, the fun is finding those that don't over hop their offering to the barrel just so it will still be hot when it comes out.

So, @beertunes, I've never participated in a NBS and I've not even finished my first BIF yet, but this really sounds interesting. Can I play too?

Heck, If nothing else, I would be happy to talk trades with you. I am still in my cellar build stage, much to my wife's annoyance. I may have some Michigan stuff you don't have yet.

    Cheers!

Happy to help. I'll warn ya now, a lot of it is standard release stuff: Ten Fidy, Exhibition Stout, Founder's Imperial Stout, along with some others. That said, if you're after any of those aged bottles, I'd be happy to oblige. I've found out I'm much more of a 'ticker', so a lot of those beers are just going to continue to age, for better or worse.

Thanks for the reply. And I will gladly converse with you on the 'standards' as I just recently got into this all and many I would like to try after being cellared I still have to wait for. But it sounds like you may be able to help speed that part up for me. Besides, the BA and special releases are not for everyday consumption (practically speaking). I like stouts year round.
I look forward to trading with you and just talking about which standards you like and why.

Isn't it BIF #11? I think this one needs to be named in honor of Nigel Tufnel.

Perhaps NBS BIF #11: Stonehenge-crushing Dwarves? (Licking the Love Pump seems a tad overboard, perhaps. :stuck_out_tongue: )

So. "Nigel Tufnel" was based on Jeff Beck. In my eternal quest to be the biggest smartass in the room, I youtoobed me some Jeff Beck.

    SHIT.

    I found this:

Need to find out who that chick on bass is. Maybe Jennifer Batten (prolly not, she's bad ass)?

    Thank you for the inspiration.
