Phase Three Brewing (2020)

Gonna sum this one up:

Mikerphone and P3 make average IPA’s in a market where competition is high. Mikerphones IPA’s have infection or “off flavors” about 5 days after canning. P3’s IPA’s hold a descent shelf life.

Shaun knows how to make world class stouts; both barrel aged and non barrel aged. However some would say his Pressed series, even though a porter, may be better than his Curvature offerings.

Mike’s stouts are mediocre at best and he charges an arm and a leg for them. He collabs on a TON of stouts because he can’t brew a descent one by himself. Also shelf life on his stouts is probably a month if you’re lucky. Most of his offerings are pretty one dimensional and lack any complexity.

 

Pixel Density still tastes great to me. Glad this is their "flagship" IPA.

 

I suppose you are one of those that believe Chicago haze holds up to all the national hyped ones? Spare me the Hop Butcher lactose bombs

 

The Pixel Density cans I picked up yesterday are just stellar. The mouth feel is on point, the Citra hops are really shining through, and the rind-y, citrus notes just keep coming.

People who like sweeter IPAs may think this is a little "green" right now, but I'd gladly drink all 4 of these cans at this stage. If you like your NE IPAs on the bitter side, like myself, I highly suggest this batch.

 

You realize he collabs with a ton of people because it gets his brand out there to people that wouldn't normally have it, right? You don't actually believe that he does this because he's some monkey that can't brew on his own, right?

This is the craft beer equivalent of someone saying "WhY iS thE prEsIdEnT GoLfInG wHeN We hAvE A tOn Of PrObLeMs tO FiX"

Imperial bean spirit is one of his best beers. I can't even remember a stout that he collabed with someone on that people were raving about.

The funniest part about this logic is you will just always give the other brewery credit, no matter where it is brewed and regardless of it being good or not, you will just say "see? he only makes good stuff when he collabs!!!"

But yeah, I agree with everything you are saying. Mikerphone hate has gotten way, way beyond anything that can be considered rational.

 

Question for the locals, how much are the pressed variants and typical allotments? I believe they come in 2 packs, right?

Most recent Pressed $12.99/2pk. I think there was a (2) 2pk limit on Wednesday at the brewery.

 

you have to be an employee, nobody has this much passion for defending something they’re not invested in (and mikerphone doesn’t have membership).

 

I'm not sure what your point is, people aren't rational beings about most things in their lives, let alone the beer they drink. All things considered (high pricing, inconsistent quality, oxidation issues, gimmicky beers which are fun to shit on) the Mikerphone feelings here actually fairly rational. People can like their beer and people can find their whole approach a bit silly. It's fine.

 

This pretty much describes me. I like some of his beer - the last Poetic Hustler can I had was great and would absolutely buy it again. Also dislike a lot of his beer - I just don't like any Bean Spirit I've ever had. The overly roasty and overly mapley combo just does nothing for me. And the gimmicks are a bit much for me.

I probably have a mikerphone beer at most once a month, and that’s probably generous. Which is probably more beer than the combined total of the 3 or 4 people who circlejerk how bad they are

 

Your last part is pretty dead on. When his collaboration stouts are good, big if, it’s usually because of the other brewer. But he takes great photos of throwing random trash in the tun so I’ll give mike, I mean you, credit.

Yea... it’s weird that people that think Mikerphone makes bad beer (or over priced or in a bad format) don’t drink it more often

 

You must either have an equity in the brewery, be an employee, or your Mike’s side piece because no one defends a brewery who has put out as much shitty and overpriced beer as you do.
