For me, it's Abita. I've tried 5 or 6 of their beers. All terrible experiences. Done with the brewery all together.

My local brewpub, Gilded Otter, used to make some good/very good beers. They cheaped out along the way, IMHO, and dropped their two best beers, and their three others I like that they still make are all crappy shadows of what once they were. The last Altbier I had, one of my past faves from them, actually had the off flavor of garbage in it. That Alt was the last beer I ever will have from them. Unless it is to purchase equipment at their going out of business sale, I won't set foot in that place again.

    For bottled beers, Port/Lost Abbey.

Terrepin. Every beer I've had from them I didn't like or thought it was just average. New Belgium is also hanging by a thread for me.

I hope you're joking... There are thousands of breweries out there and you chose Port/Lost Abbey? I mean, did you not have this year's bourbon Angel's Share, Older Viscosity, etc... Have you never had Cable Car??? I understand they have some issues with their bottles, but they make amazing beers. Poor Man's IPA is one of the best IPAs I've ever had (I understand this one is not bottled). Red Barn is a solid go-to beer. Port/Lost Abbey = Awesome. That's coming from someone who lives 5 hours away from San Diego. :sunglasses:

I agree with Abita... may have to throw Shipyard in there.

Yay! I love threads that openly invite brewery bashing. Nothing starts the morning quite like a big cup of negativity. Not everything has to be positive but if we are going to do this thread let us at least provide a fair, honest and maybe critical critique. Make it constructive, saying they suck, they are terrible or what not is of no real benefit.

Any brewery that cannot give me what I want, when I want and in the fashion that I want it is dead to me.

South Austin Brewing. They opened two years ago, only (still) make two (horrible, syrupy, blech) beers, and sell their beer for $12 a bomber to unsuspecting BAs from out of town. Best example in Texas of people going "let's open a brewery! whee!" without actually having the recipes and processes down to make a good product. Really, the fact that they are still open, haven't improved or added new beers or styles (because the first ones were no good to begin with), and are clogging up shelf space other locals could be using infuriates me.

They also aren't on BA, so I feel completely fine about this.

The last Alt I had at Gilded Otter tasted of garbage, and all their styles have suffered from cheap/poorly stored/insufficient ingredients, poor oversight, and a general degradation of the process than once made them tasty, There's been a marked decline over the last three years, and every one of my last five visits there was bad. Don't know if it was the lines or the beer itself, this last trip I made to give them one more shot, but the taste of garbage in my beer was the last straw.

Is that kinda what you are looking for?

I don't think I've given up completely on any brewery but there are several I avoid unless a known beer snob recommends a specific beer then I'll try it. Abita would be one of them. Rogue would be another - too many disappointing beers from them.

They actually had a pretty good rep at one time. I liked that place, but haven't been there in years. For me, I refuse to buy any McNeill's in bottles- though the brewpub is still great.

Roanoke Railhouse, in Roanoke, VA! The area has such potential, but they don't experiment with anything of quality! The best they have done (which isn't much btw) is an 82 IBU IPA. Very disappointing to say the least...

I'm not a huge fan of Atwater Brewing Co... To me, everything I've had by them has been pretty bland, with flavors that are either too light or miss the mark, plus they lack much uniqueness.

But I still wouldn't say I've signed them off. If I see something from them I haven't tried, I would be more than happy to give it a go. It only takes one good beer to keep 'em coming back!

Pretty much done buying magic hat, shipyard, gritty mcduffs and redhook.

If offered a Circus Boy, Blind Faith, Longhammer or Winterhook I'd accept, everything else I'll drink water or diet coke.

LOL - as a native Roanoke`er I couldn`t agree more. Steve Davidson has no interest in doing anything but flipping a profit with that place. We went in for a sampler during there growler fills and got to try the Irish Red they brew for T. Flynn`s in Blacksburg. From what I`ve heard Parkway in Salem and Flying Mouse in Daleville will be a little more experiemental. The head brewer at Parkway is from Roanoke Railhouse, so we shall see ......

Let me be clear before writing my answer, I'm getting tired of this brewery not due to the quality of their product (which I am quite a fan of, one of which is my favorite beer) but moreso the hoops that you have to jump through to get any non-year round releases (at least in New Jersey.)

    That being said, Founders.

Finally somebody that I can agree with about the Otter. It's a shame, really. I used to love driving across the bridge and visiting. Now, I just drive south a bit to Peekskill. Hopefully they get their act together.
