I see SO much Voodoo for trade. Is their beer worth the ISO some of these people try for (bbt, TG stouts etc)? Seems nobody that has them drink them.

Here’s my take. Yes these are top tier stouts, but they’re often a bottle purchase limit of 2 and available togo at multiple Voodoo locations, so people are able to grab multiples. And when people get multiples they’re much more likely to post their beer FT.

Is there a brewery forum for them on here?

I searched the Mid-Atlantic forum and there doesn’t appear to be a dedicated thread for them. Their name comes up in other threads there, but no specific brewery thread.

Interesting! With how much we see it in trade requests I would have surely thought Voodoo would have a thread. PA peeps get on that!

Not all Voodoo is created equal (both in terms of trade value and in terms of quality). I'm not sure it makes sense to lump K13 and Baltic Porters in with Magicks. Some Magick iterations (blue, green) do get mentioned in the same sentences as top tier stouts from Side Project and TG. I won't speak to comparative quality as I've only had the Magick side of that equation (though if you tend towards more hardwired, classic BA stouts that aren't filled with Froot Loops and ten kinds of vanilla, others routinely put some BMs near the top of the pack).

I can't say I've seen "SO many" trade posts, but maybe what you're seeing is people trading away bottles that don't move as often?

Also, because they don't announce releases ahead of time and sell out quickly it tends to be the same people that get the most coveted releases. Make of that what you will.

To illustrate my point above about the trade value of some Magicks, I saw the following ISO just posted... "ISO: Pappy BM, FT: Barclay DoT 1-5 + a recent Fou batch + LPF 15 sticker + 5 dG bottles of your choice from what I have."

Every Voodoo brew I've ever had was underwhelming

I like your degree of astuteness. I feel like most Voodoo stouts trade far above their worth, with the exception being the waxed magick’s

Genuinely curious as to which ones you've had? No doubt their core lineup is pretty terrible. I'm not a fan of a lot of their barrel room releases either. Conversely, their black magick's, aphotics, and zangief series are among the best non pastry barrel aged stouts I've personally had. Curious if you've had any of those?

I've had GNVP's and some IPA's. I need to seek out the ones you listed

If you haven't had any of the barrel aged beers(BRC), then you haven't had what people are trading high dollar bottles for. I agree that their normal rotations of beers aren't exactly beers that I go out of my way for, but I'll drop everything I'm doing when they announce a BRC release.

He has. GNVP is barrel room and I agree with him, its underwhelming. I'm not the biggest fan of the beer style in general though.

I have had a few of the BA offerings, and have to agree that they were mostly underwhelming. I have not tried any of the magicks however, which seem to be the most adorned & hardest to trade for.

Surprised how few people are familiar with Voodoo. First, NOBODY is hitting multiple locations and getting bottles lol That's silly. The locations are way too far apart and releases sell out in 45 minutes sometimes with zero notice.

Second, Voodoo makes some of the best non-adjunct BA stouts. I am speaking specifically of Black Magicks here, and a few others (e.g., OG Zangief, Hot Garbage, a few GNVP versions). The silver, red, green, blue, and OG black magicks are world class. Typically, these trade in the $250 range. The reason they trade so high is that 50% or more of Black Magicks get traded for other black magicks locally. I know people with Vooodoo cellars going back years and years.

The reason you see so many bottles for trade is that the Pittsburgh scene is very isolated. There are no big breweries to rely on for trades so locals are forced to either:
    - drink all their voodoo and have nothing to trade
    - drink Voodoo on tap and trade there bottles

While a lot of people trade these bottles, they are still super limited. Most of the releases I think are in the 1000 bottle range, and some limited ones are less than that.

At the same time, Voodoo has made some bad beers recently and haven't done anything about it. I would also stay away from older Voodoo beers unless you personally know they are holding up well. Voodoo's beers spend a ton of time in barrels, so they don't survive long afterwards. For instance, ManBearPig has been going down hill for 2.5 years now.

Almost nobody gets multiples of there allocations. People do bring mules though. I have friends who are near there locations and they miss out somryimrd. No idea how they would drive 20 minutes, wait in line, grab bottles, drive 45 minutes, stand in line, and get a second allotment when many of there beers sell out in less than an hour and a half.
