I am in the beverage industry and travel via plane a fair amount for work. I never really dealt with the inconvenience of having to check a bag despite bags being free for me.

Lately I've had to bring samples to customers, which I've boxed as a normal shipping container and checked. Also of recent, I've been able to visit some amazing breweries, and have reused my shipping container to take beer back with me.

Does anyone know of a nice hard case, with foam dividers, that accommodates a variety of sizes cans and bottles? If not, anyone make this and could offer suggestions / pictures?

    Thanks,
    Jason

Perhaps, depending on how much you need take with you outbound, a 12 shipper might work. Designed to hold 12 wine bottles, some creativity can get you more containers. And, IIRC, most airlines accept "wineshippers" as a checked bag.

Otherwise, just buy a decent hardshell suitcase, and pack some extra tape and bubble wrap on the out bound.

I was in Raleigh, NC last weekend and stopped at the Total Wine and they were selling a suitcase for that specific purpose. I did not open it so I don’t know if it kept the beer cold.

A few years ago I was at La Cumbre in New Mexico and this middle aged couple came in with something like that was insulated inside and kept the beers cold (they were coming from LA, through Death Valley, so yeah they needed something to keep the beer cold).

I packed beers in my checked luggage and had a note from TSA that they had been inside. I guess they didnt like ny beers as they all made it!

Also @Ocalafox turned me on to these insulated boxes from ULINE shipping supplies...I bought 2, they are BAD ASS, I brought back about 80 - 16oz cans from Maine/Vermont last year on the plane. As they sit they hold 50 - 16oz cans in each box - 25 on bottom and 25 on top of those (gets a little heavy), I loaded them with about 40 cans each to stay under weight and packed in the dead space with my clothes.
The boxes (below) have a hard Styrofoam insulated "cooler" basically inside.

Vann cut his down to hold 1 layer of cans and be easier to manage.

Just flew back from Southern California with a couple 12 bottle wine shippers and can confirm they fit both the size and weight requirements of a standard checked bag.

They are definitely kind of awkward and bulky to carry around though, so if you have the money to spend and would use it often enough something like the suitcase @mushroomcloud posted would be worth it.

Yep, mine are going on 3-4 years old, making 3-5 trips per year. I've added some duct tape to the corners of the Styrofoam as reinforcement but had no other issues. The haul I posted on Tuesday made the usual flight from Manchester NH to Orlando without incident. If you do cut them down you can put them on top of a large suitcase against the pull handle and move them without any additional cart. Cheers and let us know what you decide to use.

I got this as a gift several years back and it's amazing. You can swap out the foam inserts for other sizes or just take them out all together and use it as a normal suitcase. My only complaint is that the clips are plastic to secure your "wine" and are not covered under the warranty. Already had to replace one but in the future I'll replace them with metal clips and it'll be indestructible.

Both of these are what I had in mind - except, I would GREATLY prefer being setup for cans than bottles.

    Thanks all for the help.

I have a small aluminum case with a solid predicated foam interior. You pick out the first in small bits to create any shape you want. It's intended for use with cameras equipment but you could do anything you want. Mine is small but I found this fancy one...
