    Next beer.
I got this from @dprice , if I'm not mistaken. And I thank you so much for this.
Glitter Parts Mango Colada from Levante Brewing.

I really like the mango in this beer. I really don't eat much mango, but I do like it a lot, and really should eat them more. Really tasty beer, and here's the low down.

    4.12/5 rDev +4%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Pours a murky, turbid, shade of orange. 1 finger white, and frothy head. Head retention is ok. No lacing on the glass.
The nose has a nice touch of mango. It also has plenty of hops in it. The hops lean more toward pine to me, but there's also some citrus in the hops.
Taste - Nice mellow mango flavor. The hops on the nose really aren't there much in the flavor. There's some, and, unlike the nose, what's there seems like citrus to me.
Crisp feeling. The carbonation tickles my palate. The body is decent.
    Tasty and delicious IPA.

Maybe one more, not sure yet.

#2, this will be going to my target in NBS BIF XI, as will other (think HUUUUUGE) beers from Three Floyd’s.

PS: the glass is also a product of an NBS BIF, courtesy of @beertunes. Probably my favorite glassware.

Pours black with a creamy tan head. Looks the part of an imperial porter, and the nose, featuring the honey, oak, and peppers referenced on the label, plus rich chocolate (thank you cacao nibs) and roasty char.

The honey and peppers are the stars of this beer, with the honey lending a sweetness and body to this beer that coalesces with the peppers (that provide heat through the end of the taste) and cacao nibs to create a big beer (8.5% ABV) that is perfectly balanced.

The mouthfeel is on point, full and a little creamy, which I’d expect from an imperial porter. This is executed really well, IMHO.

An easy pour from a 12-oz. can makes a finger sized soapy white head with long retention and sticky broken rings of lace. Hazy yellow gold color, translucent and almost cloudy.

Funky lawn mower bag grassy smell with spicy clove and citrus-both sweet and sour greet the nose. Pitted fruits, unripe apple and wet horse in the background. Floral and herbal hops rise as the funk subsides to wet ground.

Semi-dry with moderate bitterness, the taste differs from the smell in that the funk and citrus are subdued as biscuit-like malt rises. Multiple fruit flavors and some fresh bread dough are added along with toasted multi-grain bread and wheat.
The finish is long as it dries while bitterness rises to above average, the aftertaste lingers with hops, spice and grass.

Medium light body, soft abundant carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden, dare I say session-able. Smooth drinker with plenty of tastes. Matches style guidelines except for the bold hops, it's made in the USA so no points off.

Pretty amazing that this thread is 15 years old, 15 years ago I was a senior in high school who did not drink. Since than I have gone from a teenager that loved math wrestling, now I’m a math teacher and a wrestling coach that has also found a love for reviewing beers. This thread is a great thread on this site and has helped me reviews beers better along with beer able to see other great beer people are trying. This is probably my last new beer of the night and reading reviews of this beer on here I bought it and accidentally forgot about for a year and half. Well now I goes is good as anytime to try this, Bell’s 30th Anniversary Cherry Stout.

Marc's Chocolate Bock, a Doppelbock by German brewery Maisel & Friends (7.5% ABV).

Pours a deep, dark, almost black, brown coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt and light chocolate and coffee aromas, as well as just a hint of earthy/herbal hops.

Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of slightly roasted, bready, caramel malt, light chocolate and coffee notes and hints of dark and much lighter red fruit: raisin, plum, redcurrant, as well as just a touch of licorice and earthy/herbal hops. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some lightly roasted malt, coffee and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

The brewer describes this as "his interpretation of an Irish Stout, bottom-fermented as a Bock" and that's exactly what it tastes like, a mixture of a Dry Stout and Doppelbock, combining the roasted, bitter elements of the former with the sweet, fruity elements of the latter in really a nice way that really works out quite well. At 5€ for a 0.75l bottle, M&F are proving once again that they are the kings of value for money in Germany.

I say speeding, because I had a 5 oz sample of this yesterday. I thought it was worthy of purchasing a full can for review. So teeeeechnically this isn't a brand new beer for me, but I think it counts.

At this point, Sixpoint has their Hi-Res formula (and variants) dialed in, and this is no exception. At 11.8% ABV (!!!), it's boozy and hot, but completely drinkable. The palate is continually assaulted by waves of tropical fruit (coconut, mango, pineapple) and a huuuuuge malt base. It's not a beer I want a whole lot of .... but I definitely want the can I have right now, and I definitely am going to enjoy the whole thing.

haha, at the risk of outing myself too much, 15 years ago I was still solidly in high school and at least 5 years away from my first beer (which ended up being a Guinness). Once I started drinking I pretty much immediately started drinking craft beer (although not exclusively as I always enjoyed drinking some AALs). I used to buy the Sam Adams mixed packs and Boston lager for the fridge and my roommate drank Shiner, so between us we never really had any BMC except when his dad was visiting.

@Roguer so sorry for your loss. I've been there and its heart wrenching saying goodbye to our pups.

Jack, loved your write up! I recently got to try their Palatine pils thanks to @zid and @TongoRad and it was lovely. If I ever get the chance, thats a brewery I'd love to swing by and try their stuff in person.

Sadly, I won't be joining in this week with a beer as I am prepping for a big trial tomorrow morning. Cheers to all of you and looking forward to jumping back in next week.

Hey NBS. It's been a while since I've reviewed, but have a few Sundays in a row where I think I'll be able to contribute. The 15 year talk really made me think about how far I've come in regards to beer.

15 years ago, I was 18 and having my first beer. I wasn't against drinking in high school, but all my friends lived in the country and I somehow was smart enough not to drink and drive.

I still remember my first beer, as it was Keystone from a keg at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning, tailgating a Hawkeyes football game. Probably not the best way to start, but could have been worse. As I hit 21, I got enamored with the Old Chicago beer passport, but still stayed with lagers and other light beers. I remember during March Madness while I was in grad school, picking up a mix six of IPAs, thinking that the "pale" meant it was light. Quite a palate shock for sure.

As I got into my mid-20s, I started to venture out more, and on my first date with my now wife, she ordered a Lagunitas IPA, so I felt that I had to order something crafty as well, and the rest is history. Whenever her family gives me a hard time about traveling for beer or drinking blind beers at their place, I jokingly remind them that if it wasn't for my wife, I don't know if I would have ever made that first trek to find Pseudo Sue or planned vacations around beer and food.

Anyways, here's my first of a couple beers tonight. I received this one this week from @Mbgreg in the Rookies BIF I run. It's a great BIF for beginners and also has a few solid veterans helping as well. @Mikexw helped check my guidelines at the start and also has helped a lot with grids for targets. It's also cool to see a few from it trickle their way over here as well.

Canned 2/4/20, received from Mbgreg in the Rookie BIF.

Pours a murky red, very thick with about two fingers of pink foamy head. I poured it hard to see what type of head it'd leave. Mild, fruity smell. It's definitely raspberry, but not hitting me over the head with it. Taste is also pretty straight forward raspberry, but that's not a bad thing. I couldn't taste the vanilla until it started to warm up, and even then it was subtle, which I think worked well for the beer. Drinks smooth. Overall a very nice fruity beer.

Pours a darker shade of orange. 1 finger head, but the head retention is poor, and there's no lacing on the glass.
The nose has a nice coconut aroma, that's cut with the banana. Nice sweetness on it, but not overpowering.
Taste - the taste is quite sweet, but not to the point where it's too much. Nice banana and coconut flavor. There's also a malty flavor in this beer that adds on to the banana and coconut. I also get some lactose in this beer.
The body is thick and creamy.
A nice tasty treat, and a pleasure to drink.

I think I'll be done with this. Might not be able to join you, because I'm likely going to be ice fishing in North Dakota next Sunday. I'll see you if I can.

Jamming with @LarryV today so very late but I have alot of brews from TH so I wanted to get a quick one in.
    Treehouse Shimmer DIPA
Pours a hazy yellow gold with almost a 2" head that has quite the staying power. Settling it leaves tons of sticky lacing.
Aroma is loads of pineapple, peach, tangerine and passionfruit with grassy/floral/pine notes.
Flavors follow with tropicals and citrus, watermelon/melon ( characteristics of their house yeast I believe now) peach and a very soft bitter finish of grapefruit and pine. Full flavored and delicious.
Feel is medium but drinks like its lighter. Light carbonation. Soft as hell while still maintaining a good balance of sweet/bitter. Creamy, hop oils. Zero hint of 8%. I am drinking juice here and its freaking tasty. Im usually not a fan of fruit puree added beers, especially IPAs but as usual TH nails the hops and fruit IPA. Great stuff. And slightly different. Taxman Brewing Exemption

Happy Sunday, BAs. Hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekends.

Fifteen years ago, I was about a decade into my craft/microbrew journey. I had very much started as a malt advocate, but by 2005 was definitely into the hoppy stuff: Victory Hop Devil, Stoudts APA, Troegs HopBack Amber. But I was starting to get into Belgians, too — and was only a year or two away from a hop hiatus, during which I drank mostly pils.

In 2005, I was still almost a decade away of even thinking to look up a beer on the Internet rather than just try it. High costs of beer are what drove me here.

My first review on BeerAdvocate was a tripel, and that’s the style of the new beer in my glass today, thanks to @AyatollahGold.

Exemption pours a mostly-clear honey-gold with a fat finger of dense, off-white head that leaves thick, clingy lacing. (It’s more yellow gold than the picture here suggests.)

It has a clean, grainy aroma with a little lemony soap, but otherwise almost none of the fruity sweetness I expect from the style.

The cleanness carries over to the taste. There’s only a kiss of fruity sweetness up front — pear, maybe a hint of banana — with some light alcohol burn, some borderline-ashy graininess and slight bitterness in the finish. Grainy is the key word here.

The mouthfeel is pretty spot-on: lightly syrupy, somewhat chewy, with modest carbonation.

Exemption isn’t bad, but it’s a bit too clean for a tripel, to my taste. While it doesn’t hold up against readily-available Belgian (or Canadian) examples, it’s still an enjoyable drink. Thanks, Dayton. :beers:

Long time reader first time poster to NBS.

15 years ago I was an avid Yeungling Lager and Sam Adams drinker. Probably wasn't until 2009 or 2010 that I discovered that there were beer styles other than AAL and whatever Sam Adam's was brewing.

This is the latest NEIPA from New Trail Brewing in Williamsport, PA. They produce a lot of NEIPAs, most of which are pretty tasty if you like that sort of thing. Anyway, let's get down to it:

Appearance: Dull, dark orange in color with an opaque, unfiltered appearance. Not much to look at. Poured with a short, creamy, bright white foam with medium low retention.

Aroma: Bright citrus orange, pineapple juice, peach, and fruity aromas with medium light malt. Fruity aromas are more on the fleshy, pitted fruit side than tour typical NEIPA.

Feel: Medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Smooth feel with pleasant boozy warmth to the end. Feel was smooth, but not the creamy, lush feel one looks for in the style.

Flavor: Citrus orange and pineapple flavors with apricot, peach and fruit notes. Medium light bitterness with peach, apricot and fruit flavors on the back end. Finished with fruity flavors and pleasant boozy warmth.

Overall, very fruity with a lack of balance. The bitterness was pretty light and could have offset the fruity character a bit. Not New Trail's best offering, but still pretty tasty.

    Cheers!

I am really digging reading that DKs book! Once upon a time, only Miami (OH) U & Oxnard (CA) College offered a course in Rock & Roll History. Enter The Woodman! It met on T & H afternoons, forcing me to get special permission from work to attend. Once granted, I became the professor's fave student, helping him to revamp his curriculum while being held to the highest standards ever. His admonition after Day 1: "Do NOT think that a term paper about The Beatles is going to get you through, mister!" Ha! My civilian supervisor & I hit upon a treatise on "The Widow Cobain: Courtney Love & Hole's 'Live Through This'". This was at the advent of the Internet, so much of my research was through TV, magazines & newspaper articles. My prof was blown away & copied it in its entirety for future use.

Taxman Brewing Co. - Bourbon Barrel Deduction

A Belgian-style dubbel ale aged in bourbon barrels.

    Thank you @AyatollahGold!

Look: Barely translucent, murky dark brown to reddish brown in the light. A lot of visible carbonation streaming up the sides of the glass. Khaki colored head settles to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a thin layer of foam/sporadically placed small and large bubbles atop the beer. Really has that nice Belgian murky brown color

Smell: Sweet, fruity esters and spice. Definitely a yeast driven aroma. I get some brown banana sweetness along with nutmeg and allspice. Other dark dried fruit including figs and dates. In addition to the yeast, the bourbon barrel has an impact on the aroma too. Soft and sweet bourbon. Natural vanilla and hazelnut sweetness. I wouldn’t expect so much sweetness on the nose from a Dubbel. Thinking about the ripe banana aroma here, but the BBA could amplify this aspect.

Taste: Driven by dark, dried fruit. Figs and dates again. The bourbon barrel adds a nice layer to the beer. Some nutty vanilla and raisin sweetness. I still get some banana on the flavor. Not as spicy as the aroma but still getting some hints of nutmeg and allspice.

Feel: Medium level of carbonation. Smooth and a bit warming at 8.5%. A little sticky sweetness on the lips. Both aspects I enjoy in a dark, high ABV Belgian beer.

Overall: A really nice iteration of the Belgian style Dubbel. Warming at 8.5%. Dark dried fruit, spicy, vanilla, some ripe banana pushing the sweet fruit boundary, but not over the top. Nutty and woody. My favorite non-sour beer from Taxman. Nice stuff.
