Sounds like one of those career plaintiffs. I can't remember which brewery it was (local), but one of the bartenders said this guy was going around basically asking for hearing aid accommodations.

This is a big deal with corporate where I work as well regarding the shift break. We have to be strictly by the book when it comes to those damn meal breaks or we get yelled at. Some of us don't want to take a break at all but have to in accordance by law, because there have been other people filing lawsuits at other bars/restaurants over breaks/lack of breaks/meals, etc.

Late wages, though, is a whole other sublject.

The lawyer for that case is notorious for excessive ADA lawsuits, so I hate to immediately jump to that conclusion and agree but...

the second one is much more concerning, but also a bad sign that no one at such a prominent business in a major city that is part of an international hospitality company did their due diligence to realize they were required to be able to provide listening aids. Would Mikkeler DTLA have been a no go if they knew they had to budget $500 for hearing aids before they could safely have live entertainment?

rule #1 never fuck with someone’s wages.

breaks and lunches are no joke either, so much so i had a buddy who worked at target who got fired for forgetting to clock out for lunch. 3 times your out, yea it’s a big deal.

some dude being segregated because of hearing aid is pretty dumb tho, don’t they have the right to refuse service to anyone?

ADA lawsuits are a pretty serious but low hanging fruit. You obviously feel for people that genuinely have a harder time in society due to a disability, but if working in web for the last few years has shown me anything, it’s that it’s an easy cash grab for lawyers.

Remember the guy that tried to sue a couple years back for not being able to attend a women's event? Probably the same guy, lol.

This doesn’t totally shock me. I have always felt that Mikeller made beer that while decent, never matched their price point. And they seemed to be opening these locations all over the place. It was only a matter of time before this happened.

Mikkeller Little Italy will probably next. The place is the size of a janitor closet; however the last couple times I went in there it was dead. Also agree, the beer over the last year in a half or so has been quite lack luster given the price point. I remember my first beer club was the viking club a few years back and it was great back then. I'd give a couple things to have that stroopwafel aged in woodford reserve single barrel again!

First they came for those with disabilities and I did not speak out -- because I was not disabled.

From my experience with open mic comedy shows in bars, they did the dude a solid by not giving him a hearing aid.

As I understand it Mikkeller doesn't directly own most of these bars, they have licensing agreements with outside people. The person who owned Mikkeller DTLA is also the owner of Mikkeller SF and the now-closed Mikkeller Oakland. He's the one who wrote the letter and who has apparently been losing money on this location the entire time.

The Little Italy location is a satellite tasting room that's run by the same team behind the brewery in San Diego.

even if they lost the hearing lawsuit it doesn't seem like something that would bankrupt the whole business

same thing with the wage dispute.

but then I'm not a legal expert. Frog?

I think they made phenomenal darks and sours, and it's a huge bummer they closed, BUT it's even worse that they fucked with Cali work laws so good riddance
